WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Hi - just wanted to introduce myself to you all! My family are seriously looking into moving to Oz. I'm married with two girls aged 4 and 2.
Just looking at whether we would get in and where we could live/work. The visa process seems very confusing! We have friends in Noosa Heads QLD so have been e-mailing them for advice. So far think Melbourne and Brisbane are too busy for us. Currently looking at Rockhampton - seems a nice place with affordable housing and lots of jobs. Anybody got any advice on this?
We are new to this too - just started visa process. We have gone through an agent as although a bit expensive, we found doing it on our own a bit daunting. We (me, my husband and two children, 5 & 7) are hoping to go to Perth area, but all seems a long way off at moment.
Hope all goes well for you, I have found this site more then helpful as lots of people at all different stages of process.
We went to oz to visit my wifes brother two years ago fell in love with the lifestyle and aura of the place. But have sat on our laurels for the last two years (you know how it is, shall we shant we) Life takes over.
I wish you all the best with your application process, would love to hear any advice on how you have been recomended to go about this as we are tackling it ourselves (at this point)
I have been a self employed landscape gardener for the last 4.5 years. Which I know causes a few more hurdles to get over but are keen to try.
We have very good friend's who have just recieved their Visa's and Passports for residency.
Hi Sarah:)..and Welcome to PIO!..and also to the other newbies if i haven't already said hi..it's a great site for anyone in the process of going to Aus..not just for help and info, but so friendly..i haven't been on here that long, and had our visa's a while ago..but i joined because i loved the general banter and support given by people who are going through the visa journey and have come out the other end..both here and in Aus..all the best.. Pingpong
Hi Sarah, and to PIO, sorry can't help with the area, but i'm sure someone will be able to.
Good luck

Been looking again at Perth this time - we will never make up our minds! Lot to consider with varying weather, jobs and affordable housing. Think we will get some help with visa app, a lawyer at the firm I work for has been helping someone else within the firm who is off to Brisbane shortly. A whole lot more research to be done! Deciding at mo whether we have to go out for a visit or whether we can just go - never been before, but do you save your money for the move or spend a small fortune going to have a look?
We thought about going for a visit first - we have never been before either - but have now decided just to take the plunge and rent for a bit when we first arrive and then decide where best we want to settle. Will look for advise nearer the time for a good place to start though, our children are young enough to not worry too much about school at first but would want to get them sorted before too long after arrival as I think it would help them to settle and to start making friends. We are pretty sure we want to go to Perth area, have been looking around Joondalup?
I think we will probably wait until we are a bit further down the line, don't wan't to get our hopes too high yet, and then seriously start getting advice (probably from here) on places, schools etc.
We are also hoping to bring the fifth member of our family over - a very nutty wheaten terrier called Winnie - so this is something else we would have to consider. I think I will be asking lots of questions here soon!!!
