I see you are in Southampton? I'm in Hedge End. Let me know if you would like to meet to chew the cud about the immigration process etc.
There is masses of bullding going on in and around Perth. My sister and mother both live there. As they develop new suburbs, first of all there is the housing and then there are schools, shopping malls, offices and all the other infrastructure that a suburb needs in orderto be self-sufficient.
They have just opened a new railway line between Perth CBD and Mndurah. The coastline between the two is pretty much developed now but I think there will be a lot more building a bit further inland because the rail link really will make a huge difference.
Billy braveheart (one ofour members) is a brickie in Perth. At the minute, he is working on building what sounds like a retirement village (same idea as sheltered housing in the UK only better-done.) He says that just this one project will be 3 years' work for the team so I guess it must be quite a big project.
Wherever you need brickies, you also need all the other construction industry stuff so I'm sure there are plenty of roofing obs around. Talk with billy, I would suggest.
Also, the main newspaper is the West Australian and it is published on line. Apparently loads of jobs are advertised in it on Saturdays.
Mum tells me that it is practically impossible to get any sort of skilled tradesmen if you want something done at home on a one-off basis because there is so much work that they don't have to do individual jobs in or on people's houses.
Are you self employed and what did you have to submit.
I had to write a stat dec of my 16 yrs in the trade starting with my trainning then into my self employment . I have a City & Guilds qual i got back in 1992 .
Will i have to take a practical test like some of the other trades.

Hi Steve, yes i'm self employed, running my own business for over 20 years now. You will need all the references you can get, starting back as far as you can go, and the ones you can't get, do a stat dec for. No i don't believe we need to do a test like other trades when we get there, but we may need a blue card.
If you need any further advice just PM me.
Good luck
MR KP Nut.

Welcome to PIO - Perth is great, as Gill says, loads of construction, not only down Mandurah way, but the northern suburbs, and places like Byford etc., In fact there's construction everywhere.
