How much do you realistically have to take with you

When starting a new life down under, how much money would you expect to have to take with you. We would be looking to buy a house eventually and would both hope to work.

I was wondering from peoples experience, what do you need to take with you so you don't end up struggling?

Iain

How long is a piece of string

What are your trades?
What state you are moving to?
Are you prepared to live an hours drive from a city ?

If you are in the building or IT Trade you will find a job quicker than a Teacher & electronics Technician.

A plumber & I.T professional both with several years experience.
Will get a job within a couple of months.
Would only need 50k dollars to make a start.

Teacher & waiter with little expericnce
Will probally need 100k dollars to make a start

We would be applying in my wifes name and she is a teacher, which according to your reply is not good news for us!!

Is it dificult for teachers to find work in Australia? We would be hoping to settle in Queensland, and we don't mind living away from the city.

You will probably have to some lower skilled temp jobs until you get
A permanent job.
The money is good in the mining industry if you can put up with the condtions.
