Hi Guys,
We have just made the decision to move to Brisbane as my husband has been offered a job, we have booked our medicals but thats as far as it got!! i am not sure what else to do next??

we have a dog, who is 6yrs old and we are diffently taking her with us but it seems that is going to be harder than we thought!!

any suggestions will be very appericated!!

The rest depends on which visa Hubby has been offered. if you can discover which visa it is and thn let me know, I can help further. I need the visa subclass number, which could be any one of them at this stage - my guess would be that the people who have made the job offer have probably offered a 457 visa to start with, which is temporary for up to 4 years, but they may have offered to sponsor him for PR straightaway.

What does Hubby do, what qualifications and experiecce does he have, and where are you planning to move to? Also, do you have kids and if so, how old are they? School fees can be an issue with 457 visas, depending on which State you are moving to.

hi there,
taking your dog is'nt that difficult, we went with Airpets for our animals and they were great, they will inform you of everything that is required. e.g. vaccinations and blood tests, and will obtain the relevant paperwork etc. our dog and cats went into Melbourne quarantine station because Sydney could'nt accomodate our cats and dog there at the same time and it was a lot more costly to fly them to separate locations. So I don't know how Sydney station is, but can't fault Melbourne at all. If your dog needs to be vaccinated please speak to Airpets before you have it done because there are certain requirements so check first to be on the safe side.

We brought our dog Connie over to Perth from the UK in January this year. It was pretty straight forward - there's quite a bit of paperwork and some blood tests to be done. She also had a 30-day stay in quarantine in australia which is the standard for dogs from the UK.

I used a company to do it for me which just helped with the timing of everything. The main things to consider though are booking as far in advance as possible as the quarantine stations can get quite booked up in advance. To book a place at the quarantine station you will need to have already obtained the permission to import from AQIS - see the following link for the Australian Quarantine website that gives all the details Category 2: 30 days quarantine in Australia - DAFF Also if your dog is due for its yearly injections before you travel, mention to the vet that you are intending to take it to Australia as there is one of the vaccinations that can interfere with the blood tests which you should avoid.

i was so worried about our dog travelling but all the staff both in the company we used and at the quarantine station were great. The animals are taken on the shortest possible route to Australia and are kept in a pressurised, heated and quiet area of the plane. I think they mostly just sleep after take off!

Well, I've waffled on a bit but if there is anything you'd like to pick my brains about on the dog transport front, please give me a shout..

Couldn't agree with you more. The company arranges everything for the dogs flight etc. The only hassle we had was when out dog failed one of her blood tests & only passed it the day before she was due to fly but thats another story Oh and the fact we sent her over before we had our visas again thats another story & a very stressful one but unavoidable as we booked her flights 3 months in advance as quarantine was booked up in Perth & our visa was delayed. But hey it all worked out great in the end we are all here & in one piece.

Don't know anything about dogs but have you done your police checks they can take up to 40 days to come back.

You need to get hold of a subject access form from police station or online from your local force.

They cost £10 and anybody over the age of 16/17 (cant remember which one) needs one.
