WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Having just taken the decision to emigrate to Oz we now find there is a huge number of hurdles to circumvent each as daunting as the next.
Firstly Oz ain't exactly small, its not like say, the Isle of man or Lichtenstein, when someone decides to move to Lichtenstein, their friends don't ask..."oh yeah, which part?".
In many cases of such geographic indecision the centre often sounds like a good bet, except in this case definitely not.
After some discussion and a great deal of indecision it boils down to Brisbane or Melbourne, Melbourne may be the better bet since I'm an Engineer and I reckon there is more engineering opportunity in my field the Melbourne area, and Brisbane is cheaper warmer...and being a diver nearer the Great Barrier reef!
OK, so we will come back to the question of location at a later date.
Next (next??) there are Visas..... OH MY GOD!!! they want what!,.... it takes how long!.. we need to decide which state BEFORE we apply!....
So, in a year to 18 months time, and assuming my wife hasn't divorced me due to the stress and we find ourselves trying to sell the house and cars without leaving ourselves without a home/transport until the exact minute we leave the country.
and then..... we find ourselves standing in Bris...er Melbour....er hang on Perth looks nice!.... Airport with 200Kg of luggage and......um......then what.... guess somewhere to sleep tonight would be a good start...... what do you mean we need to chose which suburb.... haven't we done enough already!
Yup the road to oz is not paced with easy decisions! We can only believe we do it because we want the change in lifestyle and it will be worth it all in the long-term.

Welcome to Poms In Oz. It sure is a rollercoaster. It was easy for us to decide where to go as hubby got a sponsorship here in Perth so one less desicion for us but by no means is it easy but you get there or here and it is all worth it in the end.
