Non-pom moving to Adelaide

Hi everyone,

I'm originally from Chicago, but met my Australian husband while living in England. We're now spending a year in New Zealand while waiting for my spousal visa to be processed and should be back in Adelaide by March or April, fingers crossed.

Suzer

Hi Suzer

Welcome to Poms in Oz.

When did you apply for your spouse visa?

I'm curious becuse Brits seem to get spouse visas really quickly but I've got a Norwegian mate on another forum. He is married to an Australian lass. I read a post by him a few days ago saying that he has to apply for his Spouse visa via the Oz Embassy in Berlin for some reason (even though he and his wife are living in Norway.) He's been told that the proocessing will probably take 6 months.

I can't understand why the timelines should vary as much as they seem to according to the nationality of the non-Austraian spouse.

I'm just wondering whether you know anythingg about this & can shed any light?

Cheers

Gill

Hi Gill,

They do typically advise that spousal visas take an average of 6 months, no matter where one is from, although many spousal visas take less time. It all depends on the specific case, the location of application (workload), etc. Your friend's spousal visa may not take as long as 6 months. If you haven't seen this site already, check out Australian Visa Timelines to see average times...you can search for timelines depending on type of visa, location of application, nationality of applicants, etc:

Hi again Tyke!
