WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Are there things I could be doing now to get the process started? As I mentioned in last post I qualify as a nurse in September and planning on getting out there as soon as I can after that. I have looked at the austrailian gov and immigration site and I believe I can apply for a 457 permit before I apply for full residency. Does it all depend if I am sponsered or not? What do I have to start applying for first and how do you do it?
Sorry about all the questions. I am a complete novice and really starting from scratch. Havent got a clue what to look into or what you have to do first?
Any advice or tips would be an enourmous help!
Many thanks
Lonnie

i came over with a nursing agency. They sorted out my VISA (457) and secured me a job. After 4 months my "job" bought me out of teh agency and gave me full time work and a contract. I am still there after nearly three years!
It does work and it can work. Look up on the DIMIA about sponsorship. Email/call places over here in Oz......start looking to see what jobs you are suitable for and if they would consider a UK nurse. Apply to nursing agencys that specialise in Oz....there are a few ways.

On our own again!
Is it next Sept you qualify? I am currently going through the process ofa visa 457 application. I have gone through a recruitment agency who sent my cv to hospitals and I was offered a job. The hospital is sponsoring me etc. The only thing I was advised to do right at the beginning was to be on the nursing register in the state where I wanted to go. They need proof that you are on the register in your own country etc. There might be other ways of doing it though.
Hope everything goes well, and I would start looking etc very soon maybe ring or e mail a few recruitment agengies etc see what they say.
Thanks for responding to my posts. Could you recommend any good reputable agencies I could contact? If it worked for you then they must be ok lol I have read a few things about agencies just charging you for things when all the info iwas free anyway so because I dont know anything I am a bit wary. I have been looking at the ones in the Nursing Standard magazine and registered with them but still feel a bit nervous.
Hope to hear from you soon and glad that you are a success story!!
Thanks again
Lonnie
