Some of my friends who have been there before me told me that I would want to leave as soon as I got there, that really wasn't the case at all.
There is also loads to see and do up there, Kakadu national park is amazing, there are also the Tiwi Islands, Arnheim land etc etc.
You do need to be aware of the climate up there, it is extremely hot, most of the year the temperature is in the mid 30s and there is the issue of humidity as well to deal with. Darwin only experiences two seasons, the wet (November - March) and dry (April - October). You also can't swim in the sea up there due to crocs (not sure if this is all year round, but was when I was there during April last year).
Hope that helps!

Kazz is right. Darwin is somewhere i really would like to visit.
Crocodile Dundee was filmed in Kakadu National Park. Which then attracted truckloads of tourists wanting to look at the crocs, seemingly. An Aussie geologist (a mate of mine) told me that at one stage, the Rangers got so sick of people ignoring the signs that would keep them safe from the crocs that they put up a sign saying, "WANNABE CROCODILE BAIT - THIS WAY >>>>......"
The Ozzies are well & truly blunt enough to say that if need be. There is not a lot else that a Ranger can do to protect a tourist who is absolutely determined to risk suicide.
Also, the couple who did it and then wrote Castaway lived on an island in the Torres Strait in the Coral Sea which is near Darwin.
Some cousins of mine lived in Darwin for many years till the place was flattened by a typhoon a few years ago. They now live in Melbourne but via the Family Network I can discover more about Darwin for you, if you wish?
Please just let me know if I can help further.
Cheers
