Hi guys what an experience, would love to do that but i think with two little ones in tow be a mare haha.
Just wanted to add, white goods are fairly cheap here, if you have a washing machine, dishwasher thats decent then bring it (also dryer for winter), front loaders are about $600ish and dishwashers about $500, but shops do have really really good sales here not like the UK where you get couple quid off, you can get 50% or more off stuff. We bought silver kettle for $19, toaster for $15 etc, in sales.
As for cars, be prepared we thought we would get a good 2nd hand one for equivelant of 3000 pound but ended up paying nearer 5000 ($13,000) for a family car, also we are on gold coast and petrol here is around $1.15-$1.28 per litre but they are stating the it could go up to $2 by christmas with the stength of the dollar at the moment.
The interest rate is over 7% for a morgage I think I seen an advert oiffering 7.6% as a good morgage rate, dont quote me on that as we are renting but we have just had another interest rate rise which means its going to be harder for us to get on the property ladder, if we ever can.
My hubby goes to work on his push bike 15 minutes and is home at 4.30pm every day (VERY LUCKY) so we have lots of family time. Saying that we are much worse off financially but much happier as a family.
Food shopping I find is much more expensive, more due to the fact that our income is lower and food is probably the same as the UK, making it seem much more expensive having a smaller budget to live on.
I totally agree on the finding somewhere to settle statement. An area thats fantastic for one person, is not for another. We came here as OH family are here but as we had visited several times before and been to Sydney, Tropics etc, I alway felt comfortable here like it was my second home. Now we are here it does feel like home, we have even started to say "when we go to the UK for a visit" rather than "when we go home for a visit".
Good luck everyone
Em x
