I don't know how easy it is to get work as an electrician out here, but you will meet so many people if you stay in a backpackers when you first get here.

I've travelled twice by myself to Australia before moving out here and have met so many people in hostels or on backpacker tours. I of course, had the same concerns when I first travelled solo, but it really is nothing to worry about - Oz is a really easy place to travel solo. Since my two trips here, I've been backpacking around Asia, China, Russia and Mexico.

All I'd say is don't spend too long in Sydney, Oz is a huge country and has so much to see - get out there and explore!!

Not sure about the work situation for electricians here but it's always good to see more Leeds people in Sydney! Give us a call or PM if you have any more specific questions,

cheers

Hi Jack,

Well firstly welcome to PIO, can't help you with your question but one thing i can say is that Sydney is out of this world as i went in July for 10 days to sort out work and it felt like home and loved every minute of it. You are very brave going it alone as i was on my own when i went in July as it was to sort out work and had no one to have kids if hubby came with me but he didnt have enough holidays either and also the cost of flights etc but you will love it there. Good luck with your application

The Cross

Can't really recommend any accomodation in the Kings Cross area except to say that Victoria St [see pic] is much nicer than the main drag, literally. I stayed at the Travellers rest but that was a loooong time ago.
When I came here to settle I stayed at the Billabong Guesthouse in Newtown, an area I prefer to the Cross.

Good Luck

Hi Jack,
Just want to wish you well with all your plans. I don't think you will have any problem getting work out in Oz as an Electrician. Apparently they are desperate for good sparky's out there, my hubby's a builder and he's been looking into all that and has even put a few of his mates on the same road.

Good luck with everything
