Lightbulb camper van in oz

hi folks,
a few questions have arose while sipping on champagne and feasting on smoked salmon (only joking cheese on toast and a can of coke )
As we are totally undecided where we are going to live and have never visited oz before we have decided to spend approx 3 months travelling when we hopefully arrive. a good option seems to be hiring a camper van to do this. Has anyone done this before? any info would be great particulary on the hire/buy option and if to hire in uk or oz. any info appreciated many thanks guys

My wife is from hednesford, I used to have the hen house pub there (when it was good)!!!!

We spent 12 months in Aus when we sold the hen house 2003, we bought an estate car there (the beast) we had an apartment on manly beach for 6 months and used it as a base to travel round, then had a place in noose north of brisbane, in the 12 months, we travelled the east coast from great ocean road, melbourne up to the whitsunday islands, was best time of our lives, it is idealy set up for travelling with fantastic campsites along the way, some of them are like resorts,I wouldn't hire anything from over here there are a million places to buy/rent you can even buy from company's who give you a guarenteed buy back price, we were lucky to buy ours from friends we met there, but we sold it at a sort of boot sale for cars in kings cross, i'll try and find the link for it,
neil

Talking

Hi Guys,
We rented a 3 berth camper van in October 06 when we travelled from Melbourne along the Great Ocean Road to Adelaide. We hired it from Apollo Campers near Tullamarine Drive (they are on google). It was fantastic, campsites were brilliant we never had to pre-book anywhere just turned up. Campsites fully equipped with camp kitchens/barbies/kids play areas, some had swimming pools and I think the most we paid was $25 per night. But in Oz there are lay bys where you can park up and stay for free if you want to do it cheaply.

We had a 3 berth van which was small to say the least however my 8 year old (at the time) son loved it, loved all the different places we got to see on the road. We are thinking of hiring one again when we go for a validation trip in April but would go for the next size up.

Good luck with the trip!

Gill, Phil and Harry

Hi Claire, we used to live in a Montrose close in Liverpool!!!!!!!!
The couple on here are Liz and Paul go to members list to find them, funny thing is I have posted on their thread before and never noticed where they where from.

If you do a thread asking if there is anyone from Cannock or near by I bet you'll find more people hoping to escape. We have madea couple of good mates on here who live not far from us.

What did your tra fail on??? what skill are you going on???

Yea we are nearly there now, we started the whole process about 12 months ago, it feels like years though.
