Hi Claire, good news over TRA I hope.

I am a trained Chef, although I do not Chef anymore, no one needs to know!!!!!
We have got a family business in Southport Near Liverpool which I manage, it's a very busy restaurant which seats 100 and keeps me running round like a blue ar**d fly. love it though.
Did you get in touch with liz and paul on here??

Hi. We went out to Oz for 3 weeks back in February to validate our visas. We hired a big motorhome (6-berth) and drove from sydney to Brisbane and back. It was a really good experience and we think it was cheaper than staying in hotels etc. One drawback was that it was difficult to drive around towns in this huge beast which meant that we never really got to have a good look around any towns or cities.

It was very convenient that we didn't have to do a load of packing and unpacking every time we stopped. If you hire a campervan or motorhome with a fancy retractable awning do not, for god's sake, leave the awning open all night. We did this and it got very slightly torn in a thunderstorm and they stung us for the cost of replacing it! To be fair, they had warned us that the awnings get torn easily, but we just weren't expecting a storm like that!
Anyway, campervan is a great (and pretty cost effective) way to see Oz.

Have fun!

Brillaint Idea

What an brilliant idea

Australia is a very big country
And three months will go by very quickly

What every you do not skimp on the car you purchase
And also get it independently checked by the Australian
Equivalent of the RAC thinks it is RACV?

We also hired a camper last March when in oz and would highly recommend it. We now have our visas and are hoping to be in oz for the end of Jan 08. We have decided that buying a campervan along with car etc etc. is a little out of our reach so our plans are we'll buy a car within the first couple of days and instead of renting straight away we're going to buy a pop up caravan/trailer tend and spend the first month or two getting to know the sunshine coast. We would agree that it's a pain in the backside trying to drive a large camper around suburbs so we're hoping to pitch up on a campsite and just drive the car around to get to know places.
Thanks for the top tip about the awning. We're certainly going to draw it in at night.
Its probably not the cheapest option to buy caravan/trailer but we're sure we'll get tonnes of use out of it so this is our plan.
