Perth, Adelaide Or Melbourne
Hi everybody, we are new to pio and just can't decide where to go!
We were originally going to Adelaide but then as sa sponsership no longer needed.
Did fancy Melbourne. Now everybody is asking why don't you go to Perth
Perth seems ideal but the pros on a website put me off - highest burglary rate and swarms of flies! is this true?
Adelaide seemed ideal but another website said it was full of hoons and rednecks, is it?
Melbourne I am told has terrible weather, does it?
It was easier when we didn't have a choice!
Help!
why and where are you going and if you are there whats it like?

Cannot comment on Melbourne or Adelaide but we went to Perth last Christmas for one month and it was great.Flies no different to here in the summer. The weather was fab, very hot. Its isnt supposed to be that bad in the winter ither. I loved Perth it had somthing for every one plus I like the hot weather. From the posts on here they are all supposed to be nice..

Hi Mama Koala
We went to Melbourne and Adelaide and they were both fab places to be. I suppose its like anything else some people just get a 'feel for the place'. Personally out of Melbourne and Adelaide I much preferred Adelaide but then others have been to the two and prefer Melbourne!!! So each to their own and all that really!
Melbourne doesnt have terrible weather it just has seasons, so when it is Summer then it really is Summer - unlike here in the UK. We did experience alot of flies in Melbourne but apparently it was not the norm! Didnt see any rednecks in Adelaide not to say they are not there though I suppose, or maybe I wasn't looking for them so didnt even notice.
Yes I think all places have something for everyone, it's a matter of finding the place that suits you and your family.
Be lucky with your choice
Regards

Well this post is gonna stick in a few Adelaidians throats, an i for one cant wait to see the replie's, unless of course you have miss spelt??????? ( hoons = toons ) cos they are as far as i know a friendly funny bunch in the South, an the only rednecks ive heard of are the peep's who dont put the suncream on properly.

Didnt mean to offend Adelaide!
Sorry, I quoted a comment from another website, I am sure it did refer to all those sunburned people in sunny sa.
The problem is, I have met many people who have been to all other parts of Australia, but only one who has been to Adelaide. She said that on a Saturday night she was suprised that the horse mounted police were in attendance in the shopping malls! and this happens every saturday . She said that Melbourne definately has more to offer and that Adelaide was a bit shabby!
I think she was a bit biased because she came from Melbourne (Brighton).
and what is a Hoon ?

Oh Dear Mama Koala who have you been talking too?????
Adelaide is not shabby at all, it is a lovely place..
o.k. lets talk a little and see what everyone else has to say too..
in my opinion Melbourne is HUGE and it does have places like anywhere else that are less desirable* (*isnt that a lovely word)! My Nan and Aunt live in Melbourne so it must be good and they love it there, my cousin has just moved from Melbourne to Darwin as Melbourne in the winter and spring far too cold for her Aussie born Hubbie whom also loves alot of wildlife etc.....
Anyway I thought Adelaide (and I have said it before) was a little more laid back but 'just nicely so', I fell in love with the place and didnt want to leave. It didnt feel as huge as Melbourne to me and I found it easy to find my away around. We swam with the Dolphins in Adelaide and went to the outdoor movies - what else could you want!!
There is one thing Adelaide is not and that is Shabby, Shabby Chick maybe LOL but not shabby
You got to go and have a look for yourself
Good luck Mama Koala
p.s. dont know what a hoon is either

HOONS.................Its a general term given to boy racers who skid about in souped up cars late at night, doing donuts and having burn ups!!
Many states have a problem with hoons, not just SA.
We live in Melbourne and love it......but there are hoons here too!!
Before we settled here we visited, Adelaide but found it far too quiet for us. Perth, too hot and too remote. Queensland too humid.
ALL of the above areas had there good points but they just werent for us.............at the end of the day it comes down to personal preference!!
Good luck & welcome.
Lesley

Hi and Welcome to PIO!! We to are in Melbourne and love it. Before we came here we visited both Adelaide and Sydney....Adelaide we felt was too quiet for us. Sydney is great and to be honest we planned to live near Wollongong when we finally came to live here. For reasons to do with my 18 month old medical care (Royal Childrens Hospital) we finally came to Melbourne, having not visited Melbourne before!! To be honest I am so glad we did.
Yes Melbourne is cooler than most states, it has seasons however the weather is nothing like UK. We came here at the beginning of winter and we not once had to wear winter coats etc!!
Hope this helps

Hi we're in Perth and love it here, we chose it because the climate is more mediterranean than other states, and because it was less populated. I've only been to Queensland and loved it there too, but we came to Perth without having seen it and love it. For some it may feel too quiet and isolated whilst for others that will be an advantage. It'll all boil down to personal choice really
