Red face Current Student Status - What Visa??

Hi, I'm really confused by all the different types of Visa. Could someone help me please? I'm currently a student social worker - qualifying in July next year. If I apply now for a visa I doubt I'd get a permanent one?? If I hang around and wait til next year when I'm qualified, it may take me another 18 months to get through the whole visa application thing?? What should I do - anybody any ideas? Please Jazza xx

Hiya Jazza,

If it were me i would wait until you are qualified because then you could apply for permanent residency and i know that a social worker gets 60 points.

This visa is points based and at the moment you would need 120 points for a skilled independant visa. The points system gives you points for; occupation, age, english language, work experience and a few others. The length of time it takes to get through the visa process varies whether or not your application is straight forward or not, I've been reading that it's taken some people just 7/8 months, but don't let that put you off anyway, it will be worth it. Australia is not everyones cup of tea, but if you don't try you wont know will you. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks Bradburn for the advice. I think I'm going to take it to and wait. The only thing that worries me is I know me - if I hang around, I will change my mind and never do anything!! Never mind - I guess what will be, will be!!
