newbies. migrating to melbourne feb 2008.

Hi there.

Joined today, hoping to find useful suggestions to help us with our move .
My husband Daz and i along with our two year old twins are moving to Melbourne in Febuary. I am a nurse and have accepted a job at the Royal Melbourne. We now have 5 months to sort everything out and do not know really where to start. Waiting now for visa as i have been sponsered by the hospital, next step is selling our house and finding a removal company, transferring money and looking for suitable rental property. Any tips would be helpful especially on areas to live and childcare options.

it would be great to hear from anyone, Daz and Emma.

PS; Does anyone have any tips on taking two year olds on a flight to oz to ensure a stress free trip ( not actually sure that is possible!)

Hi Daz & Emma,

Welcome to Poms In Oz!!

We are also heading to Melbourne in June 2008. Is it the Royal Children's Hospital you're going to? I am currently working as a nursery nurse on a Paediatric Ward here in Lincs, but we're going out on a Student Visa.

Can't help re flights with tinies, my daughter is 17, but am sure others on here will help.

There is also a site called BritVics which is just for Brits in or heading to Victoria, PM me if you want the site address.

Cheers,
Rachel

Thumbs up Hello

WELCOME ! Hello, you will find plenty of advice here. We are heading to Brisbane in January, and I have taken the advice from all the Pommers on this great site and started to talk with Crown Relocations for our removals. I think they have had the best and most stars on this site, but don't take my word for that. I'm only at the begining of speaking with them at present but will update as time goes bye. If you want to see their site its at: Crown Relocations

Hope all your plans go well,
Emmy Green

Hi there and welcome, we also have twins, but they are 7. I remember doing a 2 hour flight to spain when they were 2. If i had to times the stress by 12, i would not be alive today.

If i were you i'd be thinking, the house, the job, the move that's a doddle. The flight well that would have have almost put me off.

But seriously, a good bottle of Calpol (not all at once), a cuddly toy and a story or sticker book should be suffice thay will probably!! sleep most of it. After all whats 24 hours when you've got the rest of youe life to look forward to. It will be worth it.

Good Luck.

Good Luck!

Hi all,
Good Luck to all families that have been successful with your emigration plans. Due to this web site and the peeps on it, myself and my family now have new hope. We didn't realise that we could go on a sponsorship visa without assesment. Now to find a sponsor!Adele xx

Hi Daz & Emma.

Welcome to PIO.

We are hoping to be in Melbourne around the end of this year (assuming our house sale progresses without hiccup). We are looking at Pakenham and Berwick as a starting point.

Like Rache (Rachel&Stu) said (Hi Rache) take a look at Britvics (sorry Tim). Loads of info on there about Victoria.

Regarding the flight with kiddiwinks, perhaps a little gift to give them at intervals? Stickers, crayons, the usual sort of stuff. If all else fails, just raid the drinks trolley!!! Everything seems better after alcohol lol!!

Hi
We are in UK for last year afetr living in berwick & pakenham, so I can tell you loads of stuff. Ask whatever you need. I also have plenty of pom mates living there still & I can put you in touch if you need to!!! My children have also been patients at royal childrens hosp - the best hosp I've dealt with. - really organised. We are returning to Oz in next 3/12 but due to OH work we are going to Perth but will still be going across to Vic for catch ups.
