Newbies!!

Hello everyone,

We're a young couple (Andy-27 & Rachel-24) looking to move to Perth in the New Year.

Not sure if we've made the right decision but we are doing it all without an agent. Just sent our documents off to VETASSESS today and we'll be keeping our fingers crossed they come back and say we can apply for a Skilled Migrant visa.

Any information or help we can get on doing this would be awesome as we are both very new to all of this...

The best piece of advice I can give is be patient the waiting will kill you but it will be worth it in the end.

Hi Andy hi Rach, Keep looking on here as I learnt more in 2 weeks than I did in 2 yrs... The people keep it real and tell you generally what you need to know.. It's a great source of information and great to let off steam if you need to as well.. If you've had a bad day like me 2day! Good Luck with your application and keep in touch with progress etc. My OH is in Perth now & we hope to join him in the new year too. Jo

we are off to perth also and arnt using an agent found it ok up to now we must have done something right as we got a co and nina and georges meds are 2moro mine is on thursday go it alone it aint that bad

Perth is a great place (i'm biased), the only decision you'll regret is not giving it a try - if it's not for you there are different states to try.

I'm sure you already know that going it alone will be hard work, but it is definitely possible as a lot of the people on here will tell you and this website is a great place to find advice and support.

Thanks for the welcome everybody!! We chose Perth as my parents (Rachel) moved there about 3 and a half years ago on a business visa (and incidentally just got their permanent through last week-yay!). We have both applied to VETASSESS and will see who comes back with a positive assessment. Can't apply til end of Jan anyway as we are applying for de facto and will only just have been living together a year at that point.

I worked in real estate (don't any longer) and will have just met the 12 months out of 24 requirement when we appy as I left that job to move down South to be with Andy!! So dates are all a bit close really. I have a degree so should be ok on the skills assess but lacking a little on the woek exp side. Andy is an FX dealer with 4 years exp but lacking on the quals side!! So fingers crossed for the assessments, we will know more then!!
