Just come across PIO and what a great site - wish it had been around ten years ago when we first arrived from Leeds! We're settled here now but did have a lot of ups and downs with houses/work and whatnot for the first year or two. Perhaps we can help if anyone else has questions abot relocating to Sydney.

Hi, welcome to PIO, we were heading for Sydney but all fell through 3 times so waiting a bit and chilling as had a stress year with it all but could end up in Sydney if it all happens again sometime. I flew out there about 2 months ago to sort sponsorship out with a company but that fell through too but thought it was an absolutely wonderful country and cant wait to go back to live if it all happens again, i loved it and know my family will love it. All the best with your future and glad you are one of the positive ones and honest about struggling for a couple of years but made it work out which is wonderful to hear. We live in Horwich in Lancashire so not too far from Yorkshire
We are arriving in Sydney on Jan 4th and cant wait. We dont know anyone there although my parents live in qld so we're not completely alone. Hubby has a job nr Bankstown, dont know where we're gonna live (cant afford Sydney prices!) but will sort that out when we get there.
Just gotta sort all our junk out etc, leaving UK on Dec 9th and going to America for 4wks first, so only about 10 wks left.........so much to do!
I will be back to ask you loads of questions when I have more time.
Arriving in January will be nice and warm! Our first summer was a belter and we really didn't think we could handle it - bushfires, drought etc. But that was a bad year and since then most summers have been quite pleasant. Accomodation can be expensive in Sydney but it gets more reasonable as you go further out - like beyond bankstown shouldn't be too bad. I have workmates who live in the (lower) Blue Mountains and take a 90minute train in every day!
Where about do you live? and whats your job, we will be moving to Manly June 2008

Hi Michael,
We've been in Sydney just over a year now and wish I'd have found this site when I was still in England as it's so useful and everyone's so friendly!
Guess you must be pretty settled in Sydney after 10 years!? It's a great place to live and I really enjoy it here although miss family/friends back home....
