Surely they're not allowed to do this - can you compain to some official body or something? It doesn't seem right to me.

Hope things get sorted

Rip off or what!!!!!

It was a few years ago since we arrived but there was never a mention of anything like this when we used the migrant baggage allowance.

Hope you get something sorted, this sort of thing makes me mad too

I suppose this all depends on whether the 40kg allowance was confirmed at time of booking. As far as I understand it, the 40kg is discretionary and they are not obliged to provide it. As for putting the price up, I would just tell them to shove it, they either want you business or they don't and I am sure Singapore Airlines will be more than happy to fill the breach!

Good luck and keep fuming at them until you get the answer you want, cancelling should not cost anything as they have changed the price, so just deal with your travel agent and threaten to walk away!

Hi everyone, Just a quick update.
We've had an apology from Qantas but even though they did agree the 40kg baggage allowance, they're still saying NO!. so the apology is useless.... So we,ve canelled with them (we got our deposit back after lots of shouting) Anyway we've booked with singapore airlines got 40kgs without any hassle and paid less for the flights.

Thanks for all your support and listening to me moan!

Tracey

I think I might black mail them in saying you won't be inclined to use them when you return home on family trips! Even if you are bluffing. That is so off. Hope you can twist their arm, don't give in!!

I agree with Bernie about telling them you've booked with someone else and that due to your involvement in a migrant forum there are alot of people who would now probably reconsider using quantas in the future.
