WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
We have just joined this site, we are off to Perth around May next year, we are just waiting on our medicals etc and then we are to sell our house, arrange shipping etc. We are a family of 5 with the oldest child being 5 and a half, then a 4 year old and then an 18 month old.We would very much like help with advice on shipping, what to take with us, which are the best suburbs to look at in Perth and any other advice which you would be kind enough to share. My husband si a carpenter so we are going out on the skilled visa. Our friends think we are mad as we don't really know anyone out there, Kris doesn't have a job to go to and the can't understand why we want to leave Eastbourne as its right by the sea and and a t the foot of the downs. But we are looking forward to it....so if anyone can help us or give us any advice we would be really grateful.
many thanks and I hope this is not too long for my first posting!!
We've been here since January and love it, We live in Leeming which to be honest we stumbled on by chance as it was where we got a furnished rental and we loved it and bought a house here. An older more established suburb, but plots are a good size. We're 15 mins drive tot he city and 20 mins from Freo which for us is an ideal location.
Lots of people heading further south (Mandurah and Rockingham) too.

We're off to Perth too sometime before March - asap if we can, but we're trying to sell our house at the moment.
I'm sure people think we're mad too - they don't usually say much, just give you a look that kind of says 'why? you must be crazy' and then start asking, have you got a job/family/house over there? - the answer to which is 'No', which results in a look that says 'rather you than me, mate!' However, plenty of people (usually older) say 'go for it!'
At the end of the day you've just got to do what feels right with you and your family and ignore the negative attitudes of others.
Best of luck with everything
Jo

We are heading out to Perth Dec/Jan have not got a clue where to settle going to have a good look around. My OH is a chippie aswell so will let you know if we get there first what the work situation is like. We have a 2yr and 1 yr old. Not looking forward to that flight!!

Hi Marina - know just what you mean about the flight - I'm dreading it too with our 5 and 2 yr old boys. I'm thinking sedation may be a good plan - for me that is!!
