WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Hello my names Gem, I am new to this site, a bit of an olde expert of visa stuff, came out on a working holiday in 2003, then applied for skilled business visa in country, had to go through tribunal process with it due to accounts from my employer werent enough, then got that approved, and then changed to a Defacto visa in May 06, got married in March 07. Lived in Sydney and now up in Darwn, its a bit hot up here and a quiet pace of life compared to Sydney, but looking forward to a life of moving around Aus as my other half is in RAAF currently over in Afghanistan. Recently discovered the delights of ordering online with osCommerce so not missing blighty too much now I can get my monster munch fix every once in a while :)
It's nice to hear your story. I'm currently here living with my Aussie bloke on a working holiday makers visa and am hoping to apply for a defacto visa once it expires. Am in the process of gathering info and trying to figure out when I can apply etc etc.
Hi there,
glad to meet you. we are currenlty going through the army process and just wondered will you stay on beyond your contract or will you be coming back to the UK. Its nice to hear from folks who are out there and have been for some time. did you suffer much homesickness??
Hi All thanks for welcomes
Sue - my husband is dual citizen his mum is Aussie, so I actually met him out here he has lived in aus since he was a kid. He is in RAAF, so I guess I am a lifer in Aus as he is a career RAAFie and sees that as his entire future, he is a LegalO currently in Afghan, but interestingly there appear to be quite a few brits in the aussie forces, I gather there are 2 with him on deployment, and we always cross paths with others. Defence force has some good housing we live in a gorgeous house on one of the secure bases with a view over the sea, so have been very good to us so far. I miss things a lot from UK like seeing my sisters kids growing up and that kind of thing, oh and being around my peers who have common indentity such as simple things like pub quizes and conversations where reflect on common things like silly cartoons watched as a kid, but dont get that in aus. Uk such a long way way, but i am holding out for when they reinstate some kind of concordesque cheapy plane that can do it really quickly. I guess in life you cant have everything and if had all the good aus bit and all uk bits that would be a bit of a heaven on earth and not going to happen.
oH that reminds me There are a couple of msn groups for aussie spouses to get info on life in the defence, if you interested I can post the links, you need to join them though.

Hi Gem, can you PM me those msn address's
cheers m'dear
Wow Tracy - no kidding it gets really hot up here, worst is the wet season where everything goes mouldy.
Sue the address for Partners in Defence forum is Sign In it wil probably ask you to join though and it was ages since I joined so i think there are just some defence ladies who decide if you can join or not, nothing scary. Pretty interesting a lot of waffle on the site, but get some good info on various things being a defence spouse in Aus and entitlement info and that kind of thing.
Welcome to PIO, sure to have lots to talk about on here!!!
My cousin has just moved to Darwin, infact she probably isnt there yet as taking a little tour on her way. They used to live in Darwin before but then moved to Melbourne to be near her Mum but her OH thinks Melbourne to cold for him so back to Darwin!
They have just bought a fantastic boat that sleeps I think 6 or 10 people (not sure )
and they are going to be doing sea trips i.e. fishing and all that kinda of thing.
Enjoy the weather, our winter will be on its way soon!!!!!!!
