Hi,

Im new to the site, wondered if anyone on here is from the same area as me, Middlesex.
I have lived in Auss for 2 years as a permanent resident with my family. Then returned to Uk where we have been back for 2 years now dont know whether to go back or stay is a dilema as visa expires May 2008 ! Any helpful advice or experiences would be most welcome.

Sorry not from Middlesex, but welcome to PIO. What were the reasons for your returning to the UK?

Hi,

We returned to the UK for a couple of reasons. The main reason was that my son who came with us (aged 17) when we left, turned 18 and decided to return as he missed all his friends and found for himself he could not adapt to life in oz he came back after a year and lived with my parents. We then left Sydney (where we had lived for a year) and moved to Perth. I found it very hard to settle there without my son although my daughter who was 7rs settle amazingly well. We had rented our house out on a 2 year contract we could not buy our own place hence we was renting so again it never felt like home for me. As the 2 year contract for our house rental in the uk was coming to a close, a decision had to be made; would we come back or stay, sell our house (which would have been tricky from oz) or come back see my son and reassess the situation or not, so we came back! Sadly we didnt get our citizenship so our permanent residency visa expires May 2008 and we again are faced with the same dilema.
I have a daughter of 25 also who lives in cyprus and visited us in Perth and she absolutely loved it and would like me to return ! I hope this helps some people considering immigrating or thinking about returning but everyone's situation is different and you can never make everyone happy. I enjoyed many things about Australia and probably learned alot if I can be of any help to anybody please feel free to ask me any questions and if anyone can offer me any advice in my forthcoming decision I would also appreciate that. Perth house prices have escalated since we came back so I dont even know that we could return to a better life in that part of Oz now it would probably have to be Adelaide which we know nothing of, again any advice would be appreicated.

Hi,

We live in Ruislip. Have you started your application yet? Perth is beautiful we had a lovely time there everyone is really friendly and most people there are English ! We rented accommodation for a year as we had not sold our house in the UK (we rented it out for 2yrs) but the house we rented overlooked a park the school was 5 mins walk away and 10 mins to beautiful beaches. Crazy, I would drive down a road to do my weekly shopping and the road would run parallel to the sea, so would be a pleasure going shopping with the sun and turquoise water to look at all the way there. Have you been on holiday there?

Sent our TRA off 20th Aug. Supposed to be an 8 week wait. So should hear in about 6 weeks. Would be nice if its all done and dusted by about spring time next year, just have to wait and see.

We are hoping to go north of Perth Carramar/Tapping area.

What are you going to do?

At the moment we are at the point where our youngest daughter is in her last year of junior school so we are going to apply for a RRV (return residency visa) for 5 years then just see how things go, if we get it we have the option of leaving after she finishes junior or seeing her through secondary here then go. It would be nice if our daughter could finish her time at the junior school when all friendships normally change anyway and then go because after secondary they have made stronger friendships. But we will have to see if we get the RRV first ! From the information we have they say you can apply for it if you have a permanent residency visa, which we do and if you have lived in Australia for at least 2 years out of the last 5 and we have so should be ok. If we find we cant we will get out there before the existing visa expires May 2008. I also have a son living with us whos 21 but I still have a problem with that as he would not want to come with us.
We lived in North of Perth a place called Kallaroo but the house prices have really shot up, definately doubled, its funny for us looking on Real Estate, Property, Land and Homes for Sale, lease and rent - realestate.com.au and see houses which were in our area and what they are going for now !!
Do you have children? What skill are you going on ? We went on my husbands skill, he is an electrician !
