Red face Oh No more newbies

Hi everyone, i'm new to all this so please forgive me. Am I the only one who's bricking it, we've received the certificate from the TRA and are just filling out our application, fortunately i found this site and have just realised i'll have new forms to complete. What a relief that i hadn't sent them. Oh is a capenter/cabinet maker and i'm a part time accounts/payroll manager and of course mother to 7 year old twin girls. There is so much to think about and do, would love to hear from any one who can sympathise, i really need a boost. What do we do first. We have never been to oz although plan to head for Melbourne, we have no friends nor family over there we feel like we will be jumping in at the deep end. But if we don't go i know we will regret it.

Hello and Welcome to PiO

I'm sure you'll find everyone on here really helpful and friendly. I think you'll find most of us have gone through various stages of not knowing where to start to waiting to hear news......

I'm sure your doing the right thing, like you said..., you only regret the things you don't do!

Good luck with your application - if you've got any questions, search to see if its already been posted or start a new thread

Hello Herbies :)

We are at about the same stage as you and we have no family over in oz either - it's nerve wracking isnt it?

There are some really helpful people on PIO its a great mine of information and it seems not matter what question you have there is someone who knows the answer.

Good luck and keep us all posted!

Hello the Herbies.

We are at the stage where we are really just waiting for the Visa now. Once we get that and the house sells (but thats another story) we can make the move.

Like you, we haven't been to Oz, have no family there and are headed for Melbourne. We have now made loads of friends in Melbourne through sites like this and going to meet ups here. We regularly text, phone and e-mail and that helps a lot. Having said that, I'm still scared and worried about it all but it does get clearer as you go through the process.

What do your girls think of the move? My 9 year old is a bit undecided. Some days she's up for it and others its the worst idea in the world as far as she's concerned.

My OH has been offered a job in Moorabin so that has made things a lot easier. Knowing that we will be having a wage coming in as soon as we get there is a weight off our minds.

We subscribe to a website called Job Sniffa and it sends us regular updates of job vacancies in Melbourne. You'll be pleased to know that cabinet makers are always on the list of vacancies.

Best of Luck

Neil, Tracey & Hayleigh x

Thanks for that info NTH Sharman. It means alot.

The girls are very similar. One minute they're looking forward to a long holiday!!! and the next they're a bit negative which unfortunately doesn't help me. I can't bear to think that the move would upset them. My OH just says they're only 7 they don't understand. Which if i'm honest with myself they probably don't and at least they'll have each other at school etc. Ark at me, sounds like i'm trying to convince myself. I'm sure we'll love every minute of it. I think if OH gets a job offer, like you my mind will be at ease. Just the house, car and school to worry about!

Its tough when the children are unsure but ultimately, we are the parents and they do what we say. I like to think that a few years down the line Hayleigh might thank us for having the bottle to do this massive thing.

I console myself with the thought that I can't really remember a great deal about my life before secondary school so now is a good age for Hayleigh to move (9). Friends that children make at an early age are rarely around in adulthood.

If the girls want to e-mail Hayleigh I'm sure she'd be more than happy to reply. PM me if they'd like to and I'll send her e-mail address.

Tracey

hate to admit it but they probably don't know what email is. They start Juniors next week so up til now haven't really got involved with comps. Bet that will change now.

Hi Herbies
Welcome to PIO and just wanted to say your not the only ones that have never been to Oz, nor have any family out there and they are many other crazy peeps on PIO that hav'nt either - so join the crazy gang!!!!!!!!!!!
We're heading for Melbourne too (OH - plumber, Me - skivvy and 4 kids 16,15,13 &10) hopefully later this year/early next year.
I shouldn't think you will have any problems geting your visa or geting work either as most trades are in demand.
Good luck with it & this is a great place to ask all your million questions your sure to have !!!!!!!!!!!!..........
