Hi Brammies
Welcome to PIO.
I dont know if you watched one of the "Wanted down under" programmes with a carpet fitter on it ??
There was loads of work in Brisbane because of all the high rise hotels & apartments........ so it'll probably a good choice for your trade !!!!!!!!!!!!
We're heading for Melbourne mainly because..... my OH's a plumber, the weather is'nt tooooo hot for the kids, and coz its is a bit cooler & central heating is needed for the winter months, work prospects are better for him !!!!!!!!
But everywhere looks good to me in Oz, so it is really hard to decide!!!
Good luck with it ...

Welcome to PIO !!

We had a tour for 6 weeks and decided from there really, but to make things easier we opted to live where my cousins lives. There are lots of wonderful places to live in Australia and where ever you live they all have lovely summers , real summers unlike here if it is the weather you are looking for.
Could work be a major influence for you? Maybe if you found out where the best job opportunity is for you.
gd luck with the choice

Hi

We chose Perth because of the weather. Always wanted to live somewhere hot.

We were torn between the lovely weather of the Gold Coast or the security of having relatives in Melbourne. Melbourne won, not just because of the relatives thing but because it's a place both of us feel we could call home. The countryside, beaches, Great Ocean Road, mountains, cities, small townships - it just seems right to us!

THE JONEZYS will become famous soon enough

We had a 7 week recie, visiting Melbourne, Adelaide, Queensland, Perth and NSW.
We fell in love with Melbourne but thought we would check out Perth as OH is a brickie and we kept hearing about the fantastic money they were earning over there. Anyway, after walking on a few building sites and seeing how,........ despite wearing hats and pleny of zinc,.... blistered and burnt the poor buggers were, we decided Melbourne was the place for us!!
8 1/2 months in, we are sure we made the right choice and love it here.

Hi and welcome to PIO
We chose Brisbane, surrounding coasts as we did a recci over there to check out work prospects and we can comfortably say 'please hope im not wrong' that for all trades we don't think work is going to be a problem.
We also chose this area because of the year round climate being so good and if you settle in Brisbane you've got the luxury of gold coast and sunshine coast just up the road in either direction. for us, if we settle in Brisbane and not on the coast then we know we have the luxury of spending weekends on either coast.
We visited both and it does it for us.

Hi , I wasnt sure either but have just been sponsored and am heading to brisbane soon with wife and 3 kids. Spent ages trawling net ( especially this site) getting info. Brisbane was my first choice, Perth a close second. It seems to be the popular choice for young couples with kids. Wifes cousin was over from Sydney this week asking us why we want to move to Oz, said Brisbane sounds ideal for us (Perth would be too quiet).Melbourne has seasons (look out the window now!!!!). Sydney too busy.Adelaide looks good (but not for me). Anyway I am going on a reccy soon so can find out bit more. Good luck

Steve
