      3 Months In

      Hi People

Well have been here in good old brisbane for 3 months now and all i can say is wow.

My wife is enjoying her job as a nurse everyone where she works are so nice, my son who is one is loving his chilcare centre.

I have been offered that many jobs it is unbelievable got offered one job after a 3 minute interview.

Still renting stuck into a 6 month contract so when it finish's will look for our own house.

Some mor ehints that might make your move over here easier i posted some a while back but here is some more.

If you have tiny children ie 0-4 try to get them into a childcare centre sooner rather than later, I rang 9 centres up and they were all booked up till 2009 one centre had 200 people on the waiting list and had only 4 positions come up a year so that was quickly ruled out.

Rent a car as soon as you get here because it is a right hassle to buy one because you need proof of were you are staying in australia ie rental agreement, tfn, bank statement.

Open your oz bank account in the UK and then activate it out here, you can open accounts with westpac etc before leaving Uk.

Also were we are we have had to go on the old dial up internet because there is no ports available at our phone exchange to go on broadband (adsl) we can go on wireless and vodafone and 3 are doing a thing were you plug it in your lap top and you get 1 or 2gb usage a month for a monthly fee.

If you are shipping stuff over and you bring dvd's bring your english dvd player with you oz dvd players dont like english dvd's.

Thats it for now hope it helps. any questions and i will try to answer them..

I have a saying now and it goes like this.

"England is were i was born and were my family and friends live but australia is my HOME"

Thanks for that post Peggy. Sounds like life is good and you're settling in to your new life in oz. The info about the dvd player was very timely as discussing this with my OH this morning so will definately bring it with us now! Please keep posting as your experiences are really useful for other people in the planning stages.

      Hi Everyone again.

      Here are some more hints.

Buy a sat navigation system either buy it in the uk and load oz maps on or buy one out here the navman i have cost $495. And believe me its a god send.

Electrical goods (kettles, irons) are pretty cheap buy them at target or big w ( they are similar to asda, etc).

Somebody told us this on here before we came out and i will repeat it again buy buy buy loads of bed linen as it is quite expensive here.

If you do bring your english electric stuff buy the adaptors (marks and spencers sell them pretty cheap) or bring a four way extension that way you only use one adaptor.

There is an IKEA out here in Brisbane, stuff costs a bit more.

For ppl with little children they do not have english brand powdered milk ( we give our little one heinz nurture gold and he has had no problems with it. ( you can bring a container of powdered milk on the plane and you can ship it with your goods but make sure if you do that they are unopened and have a long expiry date on them.

You can get huggies out here.

All i can think for now

      Catch you all later.

I SPENT $24.95 ON A UBD ON BRIISIE CITY - MUCH CHEAPER AND STILL DOES THE JOB!

Electrical goods (kettles, irons) are pretty cheap buy them at target or big w ( they are similar to asda, etc).
      PRETTY MUCH THE SAME!

DEPENDS WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. KMART IS CHEAP BUT IF YOU ARE SHOPPING IN DAVID JONES/MYERS IT WILL BE DEARER.
If you do bring your english electric stuff buy the adaptors (marks and spencers sell them pretty cheap) or bring a four way extension that way you only use one adaptor.
ONCE HERE CHANGE YOUR PLUGS - ITS A LOT EASIER
There is an IKEA out here in Brisbane, stuff costs a bit more.
SORRY - HAVE TO DISAGREE THERE. I FOUND EVERYTHING PRETTY MUCH DOLLAR FOR POUND! IF IT IS 50 QUID IN UK ITS AROUND THE $50 HERE....SO CHEAPER FOR ME
