Having a few teething problems with finding a place to live , Estate agents over here are a a diffrent breed, weve actually been gaz-umped on the rent believe it or not after shaking hands with the estate agent (lj hooker -balgowlah),the pics they put on the internet are in some cases looking like 10 years out of date and to finish it off, today i went into LJ HOOKER glebe) (avoid at all costs if you can)with an application form only to be told I need a photocopy of my passport(common practice my mistake i forgot),when i said id rushed here from work before they closed and would it be possible for them to photocopy it in the office i was told it was against company policy and then had to run half a mile to a newsagents and back again. cost of photocopy......20cents, hence why im a bit miffed.
On the plus side everyone else bar the estate agent fiends have been really helpful and nice. Anyone expecting to get loads for thier money need look somewhere other than Sydney. If youR used to living in london and the southern counties you wont be too shocked with the price of things BUT...you do seem to get bigger portions/value, steak and racks of lamb are not luxuries, beer and wine is slightly cheaper. Public transport is much cheaper and on the whole you do feel like your getting value for money
Sydney is a great city, have been here before 10 years ago and it hasnt really changed the beaches are great the restaureants excellent and in great locations, its mid winter and weve still managed a few trips to the beach (curl curl,Manly,Bondi,Dee Why). The parks are lovely.
Be careful when signing contracts for work as it seems certain employers are a bit unscrupulous (its advertised on telly about workers rights,no such things as unions it seems).
Medicare centres are ace ,weve had to visit for a few minor reasons and been pleasantly surprised by the way your treated.
Am missing mates, family etc but so far wouldnt change a thing, its a long term plan and the highs and lows are to be expected, youve got to put it in to get it out (said the vicar to the nun). so there you go, not bad for someone who wasnt going to go on about his experiences so far.
PS ......... the telly is really really bad as has been said before....but you do get used to it and even dare i say it have started to enjoy it
