Hi new member here , my best mate of 40 years is heading to queensland in november for a new life with family , we work together and have for 20 years or so. he has gone on about emigrating for the last 10 years , anyway as well as going to miss him when he go's he has made me think about it myself . so i'm starting here and will be picking your brains , god help you all

cheers for the welcome , first thing i'm trying to work out is how much it is going to cost to make the move , i.e , agency costs, solicitors fees, container fees, furniture transfer fees on arrivial. Any hidden costs that we are not aware of. I know these will differ but we are just trying to get a rough idea overall. we would be taking about £ 100.000 with us would that be enough to get a nice house or not. We would be prepared to take a small mortgage on but do not want to mortgage troo heavily. My trade is carpentry, is there much work available out there? :)
Ps, Mr KP would like to know if your mate already going out there is Dick, do you reckon he might actually be able to catch that bloody pidgeon in OZ????????????

Welcome to PIO, just to answer a couple of your questions...
Agency costs would be about £1,600 but you could apply for a visa yourself then the cost would just be $300 for the skills test then can't remember the visa cost but I think is about £600. You would need to get things certified which can be done for about £8 by the justice of peace. Not sure about containers but I think it would range for about 2,000 - 4,000 depending on what you take and who you use. Houses depend on area. Have a look at www.realestate.com.
