WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
And desperatly hoping someone can point us in the right direction, my brother and his wife live in queensalnd they have been there for only a year so are unable to sponsor us, my hubbie is a painter & decorator by trade, ran his own business for 6 years and is now working for someone else (less presure) we want to emigrate to be with my brother but have no idea which Vias we need, we did try going with an agent and they charged £145 for a bundle of paper work that ment nothing.
i have searched the immi website site and now have nightmares about visas, subclasses and the like, all i need to know is which visa we should go for after getting hubbies skills assessed which i gather is the first step, am i right in thinking we can go for the skilled independant visa ?? hubbie is 43 next week so the clock is ticking, also new regs coming in sept 1st so want to get the application logded b4 then...
all advise grately received

Hiya ,,it is mind boggling the amount if onfo you get off that website ,im not surprised your confused.Have you looked at the MODL list which is a list of various trades that class for the 'fasttrack' visa's.I know you have been stung by an agent ,but like you i was confused so rang Visa Bureau, they were brillant at explaining which visa would be best to apply for and did this over the phone free of charge ,we then signed with them to apply for our visa and they did a great job, maybe give them a call.Good luck ,keep persevering and you'll get there,it really is worth it in the end..

Hi,
We know what you mean with the visa thing, we are just looking at the moment but there is so much information out there, and a lot of it is confusing, it seems very hard to know where to start. If you come up with any good info please pass it on and visa versa from us.
Good luck

Hiya
Try this link: General Skilled Migration
It explains the skilled migration visa. If your going out on that, like most people, you need to pass the points test first, then you can apply for your Trade skills to be recognised (TRA) and then you can apply for the full PR visa (47sk)
HOWEVER... its all change soon so it might be worth a phone call to a Visa agent to check it out first. Most of them will give you a bit of free info before you decide to go with them.
Heard only good things about the Visa Buerea and Go matilda ...... so diffinately worth a phone call first to clarify things !!!!!!!!!
Good luck with it all

Welcome
Hi Helaine,
The paperwork is endless but worth it, don't let it put you off or get you confused. We appointed an agent to take off some of that pressure and the Visa Bureau have been fantastic. They will not charge you a penny for the first few contacts and will answer all your questions over the phone... its totally up tp you when and if you decide to get the ball rolling!
Good Luck and don't be afraid to use this site for a bit of guidance, we will do our best to help!
Thanks guys, just about to call Go Matilda....kinda like the name ! will defo be back on here, i think i 'll get hooked ! keep you posted on the progress....
