WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Well, where do I start? Our DREAM is to buy a plot of land and build our 1st home (hubby wants to do this a couple of times till we reach our 40's and then build our dream home or we buy it now and have a small mortage)!
We are hoping to be mortage free as soon as we land there and have made a few enquiries about how much it would cost to build the house up to what they call 'lock up' - which is basically building the house and putting the roof on and windows installed, we will do the rest, wiring, plumbing, kitchen, bathroom, decorating etc. Its not that easy because you apparently can't just build your own house you have to do a course!
In order to do this we are hoping that hubby will have a job in the trade and I will be in charge of family life and getting my hands dirty with helping to build our 1st home, sounds like a recipe for DIVORCE!!! As an Estate Agent, my duty will be to see what properties
sell and what people expect of new builds - they are still quite dated in OZ!
As for you, I trully believe its worth you exploring a little more than Sydney and Perth. We are not big city people so have opted for a more rural setting but there are some wonderful places to see along all of the East coast, I personally find Queensland a lot more 'touristy' which I guess is great if want that sort of thing?!

$4 an hour, thats great. Did i mention i have a wife, 17 kids, 2 dogs, 4 cats and a mother-in-law, who i'm sure you'll get on with. So with $4 an hour hope you buy a big house cos we'll be looking for free lodging as part of the job.
No, seriously, i'm a cabinet maker/carpenter/joiner, have been for 18 years or so. I have my own business and im looking to work for somebody else with we get to oz. As im now at the stage where someone else can have the grief of running the business. We're heading to Brisbane area where are you off to?

I'm going to take a gamble on 'DIVORCE'... He's a sparky and his father was a plumber in his working days so he has a good lot of experience in those trades.
I think your mad going back to the begining, how old is your son? It frightens the hell out of me thinking of returning to nappies, colic etc and our little girl is only 2!
And then your going to 'manufacture' your son in to meeting a nice Aussie surf chick rather than allow him to fall naturally in love with an English lass?! Good thinking, get those tickets booked!

We're just moving onto the the main application, handed all the completed forms to our agent but are waiting for hubby's full length birth certificate to come back before they can log it.
Wow, you had your son when you were quite young? I guess yo don't remember the early stages of babies that well (haha). Have you had any luck with selling your house? How does your son feel about moving to Oz?
