Another new kid on the block

Hi everyone, we are in our late 50's and about to begin our adventure of a lifetime. We managed to secure one of the last retirement visas a year ago and are now moving to Mornington, Victoria in September. I notice jonseywife are in Mornington - you might be our neighbours and we might be up for babysitting!!!!. We are going to buy a house but will probably have to rent for six months or so before we can find what we want.

We have a cousin living in Mornington, but other than that know no-one. We are keen golfers and looking to join a golf club and hope to take up bowling as well.

Anyone living in the Mornington district give us any help/guidance on where the best place to live might be. We thought Mount Eliza or Mornington itself, near to the beaches. Anyone a member of Mornington Golf Club?

Welcome to PIO and congratulations on the Visa. Nice to have fellow babyboomers on the site, beginning to think we were the only ones taking the plunge in the prime of their lives.

We are having to go the expensive Contributory Parent Visa route and it is going to take about 16 months for our visa to be processed - and that is being optimistic.

We will eventually be going to Victoria, not decided yet whereabouts - so many nice places it will be difficult to choose. The Mornington Peninsula is lovely and looking at different threads on this site, I think very popular with us Poms.

Welcome Chris & Dave and congrats on the visa.
We have been in Mornington for 7 months now and love it.
Mornington has a fantastic bowls club that actually looks out to sea with views across the bay. There are also lots of golf courses so you will be sorted there too!!
Main Street in Mornington has lots of great little shops and places to eat, as well as the usuall Coles, Safeway and Target.
Where in Essex are you from as that is where we are from too......small world eh!!

We currently live in Buckhurst Hill. Have been out to Aus four times now and will be staying with Dave's cousin in Mount Martha (close to Lesley?) until we can find a place of our own.
