hiya which state are you heading? Brisbane has lots of building work going on at the mo and there is a shortage of tradeys.Have you tried contacting some of the big house builders?alot of skilled guys over here set up on their own so that may be another a channel to look into,dont get to disheartened if you dont get much response from the uk as this seems pretty normal,good luck
