sort of settled but not!?

Hi All

first time to use and just found the site last night

we arrived in Oz last August and our story is a bit different to those that I have read so far, in that I am an aussie and my husband in english, however I lived in the UK for 6 years before returning.
we are living in the Blue Mountains and all in all is going ok as family are around and some friends, but most are in Sydney or have moved totaly away. need some ideas on how how to meet like minded couples, girlfriends, mates etc!! any advice

Welcome to PIO!!

Its a shame you live so far away. I live in Adelaide and have a great social time meeting up with friends for coffee etc.

I've only been here 3 months but have a better social life than back home.

I met my friends on here and also through my boy joining Kindy in Hallett Cove, Adelaide.

Do you have kids? If so school is a good start or joining a club, meeting the neighbours?
I used to work as an Avon lady in my spare time a few years ago when I first moved to a new area in the U.K. The amount of customers who became my friends was unbelievable too.
Like minded people are out there, its just a matter of getting yourself into the thick of it.

Welcome to PIO, it is difficutl getting the friendships and socialising going. I'm sure that there may be a few more PIO branch get togethers all over Aus as more of us migrate.

unfortunately no kids - as I think that would make it easier, maybe it is a hint that we should start trying, but as we are only just married would rather wait a bit longer. Thanks for the tips though

Hi Alana,

You are very wise not jumping into having kids till you are ready, without being too personal....Do you work??, if so havent you met people through your job?

If you dont work, it might be an idea to get a little part time job or something as that is a very easy way of meeting people,

If (like me) you dont like work (coz im lazy!!)you could try joining a gym, you tend to find a mix of people at gyms, some are up their own backsides but some are just looking for the social side.

what do you think??

thanks again for the support - it really isn't that bad - and yes have met people through work and also know some people her. I guess it is just that most people do have small children, which is not a problem, but would be nice to meet other girls or couples that we could go out with occasionally. I actually grew up here but as you can imagine after being away for over 6 years there are a lot of changes and a lot of my closer friends live in Sydney. I am sure I will get there - and yes perhaps joining the gym again would be good as the waist is starting to stretch!!?
