Helppppppp !!!!!

We have been in Brisbane for 5 days now and are running around like headless chickens ! The kids are sick and we still have no idea where to go to find a house to live in or even start looking for a job for hubby ( carpenter). I know I am probably panicking but i just don't know where to start. We drove down the coast and liked the look of Narang, and then was told it is a real scummy place to live, but we want to be in a country side autmosphere that is close enough to find work within half and hours drive. Also have just found out that even though hubby is fully qualified in Uk he isn't in Oz, even though it was a recent qualification in Uk and then he won't get the proper rate of pay until he does the course here ! Can anybody out there advise us on anything really ? including what we need to do now for tax numbers etc !! (ps I don't mean to scare anyone but at the minute it is alot to take in ! I'm sue it will be fine in a few weeks Won't it ?)

Hi Alva

send me a pm and I will give you my phone number. I just helped a couple of new arrivals a few weeks ago, they are sorted now and have rented a house etc.

Actually... that is a good point... What do people do cover themselves medically for the first few weeks? Do you need travel insurance before you leave the UK?

Buck - I think most people rely on the agreement between UK and Oz that will cover people for emergency healthcare whilst in Oz until their medicare is resolved (which should take around 10 days and I think you only need your visa to register).

However, you must get travel insurance for the journey as you are not covered en route in your final destination if anything should arise then
