Moving to Sydney in Oct 2007

Hi. I'm new to the forum. Some background - my husband and I are both from the UK, although we are currently living in Bermuda (its a tough life) :). We have our Australian visa and made the validation trip 2 years ago when we first got the visa. We are planning to move to Sydney in Oct 2007. Is there anyone else planning to move to Sydney around that time? Everyone on Australian expat forums seems to be going everywhere else in Aus except Sydney. I am beginning to think everyone else knows something that we dont.

I've been in Sydney just over 9 months! Will be nice to see someone else arriving here as everyone seems to be heading elsewhere! Let me know how your plans are going and when you're arriving and perhaps we can get together! Any idea where in Sydney you are planning on settling?

Thanks Koaloa12. I am looking at moving to Sydney CBD as its likely that both my husband and I will get jobs there, although you never know. I am leaving Bermuda at the end of August and going back to the UK for a month to visit family which will be nice. Just now I am just looking at places to stop off at on the way down to Australia (fun!). It would be good to meet up when I finally get to Sydney as its been good reading your posts and hearing about your experiences so far.

Hi Loual and welcome to pio, we are heading for Sydney when we get our visa but dony do city living so will be moving further into the country life. I did a 10 day trip there and came back last weekend and it was absolutely fantastic and wont be regretting our move when we fineally do it

Hi Loual,
A premature welcome to Sydney from us too. We've been here 18 months and have no regrets. TBH nowhere is perfect Adelaide=quiet, Sydney=expensive, Brisbane=hot, Melbourne=cold, Perth=remote so you make it your own utopia.

We chose Sydney for work reasons but I would rather live anywhere out here than the UK...

I only been to Queensland and live in Sydney but Sydney is expensive compared to Qld! However, having come from London it's still much cheaper than there!!! I would much rather be here than UK though.....it's great!

Hi, we are moving into the balmain area hopefully, 1st September. We are Alan and Clare. No kids. 2 Cats

We leave the UK on 17th August and have 10 days en route to Thailand and Singapore for jetlag recouperation and shopping/massage/beaches to lie on. Hopefully we should be only an hour or 3 behind Sydney time zone wise on arrival so we can do a house rental hunting assault on day 3! 1 and 2 are for touristy bits and dinintg out!!

Would love to meet up and stay in touch with anyone Sydneyside who is up for a laugh and the odd beer or 2 now and again.

Hi Al & Clare,
We stopped off in Singapore for 3 days en route to Oz last year when we emigrated (we'll have been here a year on 1st September!) and we had a great time although the weather wasn't that good...monsoon rain but very hot and sticky!
You'll love it in Sydney, it's a great place to be and always so much to do and see....let us know how you get on...

Hi Bluetvrs1. Your overview of the Aus cities is exactly what we think (although we have never visited Adeliade, but would like to) and we are also choosing Sydney for work reasons. Also, after living in Bermuda we will find Sydney cheap, so we cant wait!

Al and Clare - I noticed you are from Manchester and your post made me laugh. My husband is from Manchester originally, and beer is a high priority for him too! I am beginning to think they teach all about the finer points of beer drinking in the schools there :) Mind you, I am Scottish and its not like the Scots have a reputation for being tee total.
