panickstricken help!!!

hi folks, husband has just been doing a bit of research and come across a bit of a blow. Only emailed the agent we chose saturday. Heard nothing yet, I know I am sounding impatient, but I do feel that if people are not sharp to respond quickly at the start it does not give confidence. Oh just found out that if the tra's are not lodged by 1st of July, then he will have to sit tests over here as part of new law. He has 20 years experience so is confident, but could do without losing time off work as is self employed. If agent does get his finger out and acknowledge us what are our chances of meeting the deadline, is it possible can anyone give any ideas on timescale? Thinking of looking at a different agent, as not agreed to anything yet! It is so annoying as we have took at least five weeks of serious discussion and now we have made our minds up we may face an extra hurdle.

Patience is a virtue! What visa are you applying for? If your application is straightforward, why not consider cutting out the middle man and doing it yourself? At least you'd be in control!

I got in on a 136, but I didn't have to do a TRA. The visa application is very straightforward but I believe there is more to the TRA. Normally I would say don't bother with an agent, but since you have such a tight deadline it might be advisable to use one. I think searching on this site for "Agent" would probably be a good place to begin looking but I would say you need one that is going to start working for you TODAY! When I was researching agents I found Visa Bureau very quick off the mark and very helpful (although I didn't use an agent in the end so can't advise more than that).

Have found a very helpful company today, called 1st contact and they will have contracts in the post and details of what is needed collated together for us.They answered all of our questions and were prepared to put the effort in to get things sent off asap. Seemed much quicker off the mark and installed confidence which is very important. Need now to get documents photocopied and solicitors signatures done very quickly to get in before the deadline. We have officially entered the migration process and I have walked round with a tight chest all day, anxiety, not a tight bra before anyone thinks it. I was talking that fast to a friend I NEARLY NEEDED A PAPER BAG TO CONTROL MY BREATHING,ha ha.

One observation might be that the advisors you approached initially are busy because they have a lot of clients as they are good at what they do ... just a thought ... better perhaps to be with a firm that is busy and successful (and might take a few days longer to respond) than one that has time on its hands ... :)

Also, where did you hear about changes on 01/07/2007 and you having to "sit tests in the UK under new law"? That sounds highly improbable to me ... I'd go so far as to say it is nonsense!

Best wishes.

That's an interesting angle to put on it.... here's mine - they get paid to work 9-5 and don't really care what kind of service they offer because they will get paid no matter what. If they were really that good the management would realise that the only way to stay good would be by hiring more staff because we all know that overworked people can't provide a quality service to everybody. In my experience, once you start having trouble getting hold of people things quickly spiral downhill and end up in a big mess. Also, generally you won't be able to get hold of anyone to complain to because they have the same attitude, so even if you do complain it becomes a pointless exercise.

I'm just generalising off course, but in my case the alarm bells start ringing as soon as I have trouble getting hold of people, and in most cases this is the start of problems!

I had heard that some trades would be able to be assessed in this country so that they could start work straight away once in Australia, may be that is waht you are thinking about.

Kaye :)
