holiday or not

I know this is second post on here today, so many questions, such alot of time. I think I will burst if I dont get them out of my system. We cant really afford to go there first, already have summer holiday booked and the difference and loss of deposit would make it quite inaffordable. We feel quite crazy in the fact we were just going to go without any preconceptions and just do it. Is there anyone out there whom has done this, or are we completely barking mad to consider it. I think the loss of deposit goes up once you get to seven weeks before departure, so we would have to act quick if we did change our hols from Greece to Oz. In hinesight would not have booked this holiday at all if we had made the decision sooner!!!!

well if you're barking then so are we. We're in exactly the same boat, can't afford to go and look first. It is really scary, don't know what we're letting ourselves in for but then think what the hell, you only live once.
You mind find you need the holiday you've already booked to get over the stress of applying for your visa!

Hi Jo & John and Bec's
Woof ! Woof !
We're barking mad too!!! Along with loads of others on this forum.!!!!!
We had a mid life crisis, decided when my hubby was 44 to emmigrate (after starting a big extension on our house, which still isnt finished!!)
We have NEVER been to Oz and like you can't really afford to go on a reccie at the moment, we have No jobs to go to, or no where to live (with 4 kids tagging along!!)... in for a penny they say!!!!!
So just to let you know..... your not alone.
You will find sooooooo much info on here, and in the name of research spend hours on here finding it all out!!!
Enjoy your holiday & good luck I say!!!!!

We too are howling mad.
We've never been, and can't find the cash for the Visa without ebaying all our worldly goods at ther mo. Let alone a holiday.

Every one keeps asking us
'Do you have family out there then?' NO
'You been before?' NO
'Got a job offer?' NO

Oh well like everyone, says you only live once, its only money, you can't take it with you and you're a long time dead!

We have never been to Oz, and decided not to go on holiday before hand as we decided a holiday could be misleading so thought what the hell lets just see what happens. Although saying that we are fortunate enough to have a job and place to live through the ADF.

Thanks for all the fantastic replies. I have definitely taken some comfort in knowing that we would not be the only ones to do it without checking it out first. I think I will be spending alot of time on here. Is there any method of route to follow when you have no job to go to, no home, no schools set up etc, etc, etc. Is there anything you can do like secure a rental, or do you just book into a hotel when you arrive? Ha ha, here I am talking like I am there already, beam me up scotty!!!!! We have lived in our house for 8 years and never felt settled, the time is right to go and like you say you are only here once, so there really is nothing to lose we know whats here, and we want the change, we have it all to gain!!!

Hi Jo and John,

When we get there we have booked a 3 week holiday rental for us to be able to find a long term rental, car, school, job etc. We booked it through www.pomsinperth.com and it costed roughly £800. This is for a 4 bedroom house with a pool which the kids will love. It will feel like a holiday for them.

Hi
Gosh!! and I thought we were the only ones!!! yippee!! we have sold our house (within 2 days) going into rented for short term within next month! No jobs or house as yet! never been to Oz but cannot wait for our new adventure going on a 136 independant visa going through skills process (I am a RN) hubby (yachting industry) 2 children, going end of year eraly next year. heading for either sunshine or Gold coast. I am very lucky, boss has said if it goes pear shaped over there the NHS are keeping my job open for 2 years ( i have been in the NHS for 20 years so they are now giving me something back) .. but the idea is we don't come back!!
but hey ho its only a small upheaval!!!!!!!!!!!
