hi we are not using an agent but got advice from a family that also did 136 visa by themselves at our sons school. we posted our TRA in nov 2006 got a reply in dec, then posted main visa application in febuary and got a case officer within 6 wks and got requested to go for medicals 2 wks later. I would recommend the 136 visa like you said it will give you both permanent residency ,i found the TRA app harder to complete than the visa app but have just spent the last eight months worrying if we have done everything right, good luck with whatever you decide to do it will be worth it in the end.

Thank you Mark and Lisa. Think we are definitely going to go for the 136 visa.
How do I get the skills assessment started?

Hi to get your skills assesment started go to workplace.gov.au.tades recognition australia web site and print off the app form, you have to provide evidence of your work experience and they like you to have been in tha job/industry for 7 yrs so you have to proove this with trade cert, exact places and dates of employment, detailed accounts of how you trained eg, because im a hairdresser i had to write a detailed account of what tasks i did in the workplacement college and how i was assesd , i got in touch with past employers to certify that this is what i did ect. I got a letter from my school to say that my spoken language is english. I had to get a detailed reference from each past employer detailing my work there. It might sound tedious but it has to detailed to the point of ,when lisa was in my salon she used brush, cutting comb, hairdrier etc you cannot provide to much imformation you have got to let them know that you know what you are talking about and that on a daily basis you do everything invoved in your job to the best standard. I wrote these references myself then asked them to sign it. They also ask you to write a detailed statement of what you do everyday at work and my advise is just to write everything down mine was 11 pages long hand written cause im really slow on the computer as you can tell
