Hi can't help with Sydney - only ever spent 4 days there as part of the holiday which is nothing like real life.
I'm a nurse and work with alot of aussies. As you can imagine, nursing is one of the big occupations for poms migrating to Aus and there's about half a dozen of us there at the moment. What the ozzies have said to me is that they don't like to be considered 'backward' you'll often heard it said they're 10 years behind - they don't apprectiate being told it. When my hubby was shown round his new job, they pointed to some 'new equipment' hubby said (to me) that in the UK this had "gone in the skip" about 5 years ago and they would use something else - he kept his mouth shut at work.
If poms start going on about how it's done in the UK the Aussie will ask why the hell you came, best just to accept the way it is here, don't go on about the Uk and you'll make some brilliant mates - yes you may get a bit of ribbing but they also like it when you give it back (or at least that's what we've found).
