WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
New to this site, and actually an Aussie moving home after 10 years with my Swedish wife. I promise not to mention the cricket, so please be nice.
We live in Edinburgh and will be moving to Lennox Head near Byron Bay. We want to take our cat and I was looking for advice from those that have shipped cats from Scotland to Sydney. We also need to get her from Sydney to Ballina, we just assumed we would have to go down to pick her up. Is that so?
We've started the process and have recieved the relevant permission from AQIS.
Has anyone done it themselves? Or am I better to get an agent to sort it all out? Any help would be thankfully recieved.
By the same token, if anyone wants some advice on Aussie life, I'd be happy to help where I can.
Hi there - just wanted to say wlecome to the site.
Can't help specifically with your query -but there are loads of people on site who have shipped/are shipping pets so I'm sure one of them will have the answer.
Are you really excited to be headed back to Oz?

Yep really excited after all this time. I've loved my time here and it's been great for me in so many ways. We're moving to a new part of the country for me, so that should be a little bit new for both of us.
Cant help you either l'm afraid John! we've decided not to take our cat with us so my sis is gonna have him Big welcome to PiO though, as Abi&Dan say, there is bound to be someone come on here later with some help Lyn
Hi John
We intend to take our 3 cats when we move to perth next year.... we intend to use a company called GOLDEN ARROW SHIPPERS based in shropshire...tel: 01 588 680 240.
They have quoted for our 3 £1955.00 which includes :
All freight charges, airliner documentation (flying with BA and Qantas), sealings and UK vet fees at the airport and travelling kennels.
Arranging the shipment and booking. Up to 3 days prior to 3 days board prior to export
Delivery to the airport and disbursement fee
Obtaining the import permits and DEFRA's export health certificates. Wormings, Final insecticide treatments and health examinations...
However the transit insurance is not included and that is an extra optional cost of £3.50 per £100 insured...available for pets up to 8 yrs old..... and also the quarantine charges in Australia are not included.
I actually think this is a good quote and takes the hassel out of doing it all yourself.... back in 1996 i brought a cat back from Malaysia to the UK and to bring her back cost me £1000 and i did that on my own without an agent and it was alot of hassel.... but its all down to personal choice in the end!!
Sorry i can't help anymore...but it gives you an idea....
We are moving from Scotland too. I'm using a company called PetsontheMove based in Ayrshire, the only one I could find in Scotland. Lady has been extremely helpful on the phone and totally understands that your furry friend is not just a pet! I dont know how much a cat would be, I'm paying £2,500 to send our dog, but the work involved is worth it and gives you peace of mind.
There is a company in Dunfermline called Pet Travel Services Tel No is 01383 722819, which came highly recomended. Another one i know of is air pets web addy is www.airpets.com.
