new to narangba qld

hi, my name is Deena and i have just move to queensland last month with my husband,Ivor and our 2 sons Elliot,16 and Reece,14 , would love to hear from anyone in narangba or surrounding area. we have been in OZ since oct 2005 and were living in Ulladulla NSW but it was to quiet so have come to qld to try our luck!!!!!!!!!

Hi Deena

Not sure if you will see this post as it is quite old but I was just wondering what you think of Narangba?

Hi ,we like narangba, it is quiet but not too far from the city and shopping malls but as i'm not driving at the moment i do feel a bit isolated as the bus service is very limited but still don't know anyone here and that's the hardest thing about being here. Are you thinking of coming here?

Hi Deena

We are hoping to come get to Brisbane but I would like to live closer to the beach but within an easy reach of Brisbane just in case my OH gets a job there. We were looking at Redcliffe and then I noticed Narangba. I was just wondering what it was like! It is dificult to judge somewhere by just looking on the internet.

Would you say it has a community type feel or does everyone keep themselves to themselves.

Hi Opal,
If you want to be near the beach then you would be better of up the coast to Caloundra, about 40 mins drive away from Narangba, which has quite a few lovely ones, but Redcliffe , although it is an up and coming area and the sea front has loads of cafes , the beach is no more than a pile of builders sand!!!!! the beaches , for us , around here have been a great dissapointment to us,we lived for 15 months in Ulladulla NSW about 3 hours south of Sydney, and the beaches were just unbelievable and so isolated but the area was just too quiet for us and 2 teenage boys so that's why we headed north. I'm sure there are some lovely beaches here but we just havn't found them yet!!!!! As for community spirit , we have been here 4 months and have only spoke to the neighbours a few times, most people tend to keep themselves to themselves but when I go for my walk to the local shop you can guarantee that everyone will say hello to you and smile so it's not all bad. I think if you have small children you would get to know people quicker as one of my friends in narangba has real good neighbours and they all have small kids but I don't fancy getting pregnant just to make friends!!!!!!!!! Hope this helps you in some way and that i havn't put you off Narangba ..regards Deena

how far away are you from the city and are you well settled now? we have found it quite hard to settle as we don't know anyone here but we know it takes time . In Ulladulla we had family to help us , which makes all the difference, but the place was not for us hence the move up north. We like the place but feel very lost!!!!!!My husband has found work (he's a painter and decorater) whereas I'm still looking for something ,anything!!!!!!
Where abouts in the Uk are you from ? we are from Dunstable Beds

Thats funny, we live in Milton Keynes and my husband grew up in Dunstable!!

I appreciate your honest reply - that's why I asked..... no good telling me a load of porkies. And anyway, what works for one may not work for another.

Caloundra was the place we originally but I am concerned about the distance to Brissie. If him indoors gets a job there, then he has a long journey to work (although he works in Stevenage as it is so its a good hour each way).

hi Opal,
when are you thinking of coming to OZ and do you know anyone here?We lived in Shenley Lodge and Bletchley for a few years in the 80s but then moved back to our hometown of Dunstable when we had the kids. We don't regret coming here at all but I will be honest with you it ,at times,it has been the hardest time in my life, you just miss people so much and I don't just mean family ,you really miss friends and all the people who really know you eventhough meeting new people is exciting just being around people who you are totally at ease with ,you miss heaps but I'm not whingeing just pointing it out!!!!!!!
But no one can tell you how you'll feel you just have to go with the flow and make the best of it

Wow small world! I must admit it is difficult to understand how much you will miss people. Having said that my sister and family and also my mum are joining me hopefully and I have a brother that lives in Brisbane so I do feel a little easier about it. BUT we are leaving my in laws and lots of friends.

Its just such a big thing to do and I don't want to make a mistake. I don't want to go out with rose tinted glasses and get devasted when I realise how hard it is.

Have your children settled in OK?
