WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Hi there. This is my first post so be gentle with me.
I am in Salisbury UK but we (husband and two young boys) are desperate to move to Melbourne. We've been thinking about it and gathering information for about 12 and we've just got back from 4 weeks in Melbourne and it was glorious. Did loads of stuff while we were over there and absolutely fell in love with it.
My husbands auntie lives over there and has done for 20 years and they are happy to help but we are having some major issues with the whole process. I won't bore you with that now - just wanted to say Hi.

Hi Andrea, and welcome to the site!
You wont bore anybody, there is sooooooo much help and advice on this site, I have asked some really stupid questions and they all have been met with friendly replies.
So go ahead and ask away, you'll have advice in no time!

Thanks for the welcome, Guys it's really appreciated.
My main question is this: who do you have to kill to get an appointment to sit down and speak to a human being at Australia House?
I've tried emailing them with a number of issues and their latest reply was "all the information is in the website - if you are still unsure speak to a migration agent"
That's not very helpful as we don't have a house to sell so any money we can keep hold of is precious in our new life in Oz. Do they not understand that we are not all loaded?
We're from Trowbridge and are also hoping to head to Melbourne with our 2 young monsters. We've never been over ourselves so it's a big leap into the mostly unknown and the whole thing can be very scary but everyone on here helps to make it more exciting than anything else.
Lots of luck with everything.

From past experience I don't think you can get to speak to anyone at Australia House until you've applied and been assigned a Case Officer! Not much help I know! As they say, everything is on the website, but it's blooming difficult trawling through it all!
How are you planning to get to Oz? On a Skilled Visa?

Ideally - yes. Hubby is a plumber but has no qualifications. He has the required work experience but for 7 years he worked for his dad!! 4 years he was self-employed with no business registration certificate (whatever that is) and then he had 2 years off after a motorcycle accident. Have no idea whether we can get him through the TRA.
Now you've sent your first post there will be no stopping you and you'll quickly become addicted just like the rest of us! My husband has now taken to rolling his eyes whenever he sees me leaving the computer room (which isn't often since I now wear a disguise ).
Seriously, post, post, post girl! We're all here to listen to your questions/moans/opinions etc.
Cheers,
Rachel

By the sounds of it I think you might be best off speaking to an Agent. I don't have any experience with these myself, but I'm sure I've heard you can get some initial advice for free. There is plenty of people on this forum using Agents so I am sure they will help you.
Sorry I couldn't be much use, but best of luck with it all, and let us know how you get on.
