WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Hi all
I have been watching this site for a couple of weeks and have plucked up the courage to say hello. We received our TRA approval this week and were very excited but scared at the same time. Not sure yet whether to go to Perth or Melbourne. My OH is a bricklayer and I am a primary schoolteacher. I have a son of 16 and a daughter of 18.
Look forward to any advice you might be able to give.

I'm sure with your occupations you'll both get work in either State. I'm not much of a party goer, but unless your near to the city, I don't think WA has much of a night life but not sure of Melbourne (thinking of your teenagers), but if they're into surfin etc., there's loads of brilliant beaches

No we have never been either, we have also heard that there is a lot of work there for brickies. Have you any family or friends out there? What makes you think you will prefer Melbourne?
hi again julie
its just perth doesnt really appeal to me, I suppose its what you want out of life. Theres more work there but houses are dearer and we would really like to buy house outright so the house we would get would be smaller, also its very hot there and hubby will have to work out in that! we not interested in earning huge amounts we just want better life for kids, we have friends in melbourne he brickie and got work and even though prob not as well paid as perth it will do us. although saying that i think if i knew he`d get work in adelaide i`d go there as slightly warmer & quieter than melbourne, but with kids hitting teenagers we prob stick to victoria as more there for them, i still havent ruled perth out though, did like the look of bunbury mandurah areas.
I see why mum mum calls me mary mary now, can never decide lol
feel free to pm me if you ever want to discuss anything

Hi Julie & Martin
Congrats on tra, We also have teenagers, son 17 & daughter 15 (18 & 16 this yr) also son 11. We cant decide between Melbourne & Perth and as we've never been to either its quite hard. Also my mom lives in Queensland and wants us to go there!!
