hello, This is our story :(

Just to say hi,

my husband and i have been wanting and trying to get to aus for almost 3 years now.

we wanted to go back in 2004 so went and spent 12 months travelling around aus to be sure we liked it enough to migrate. We then went and did some voluntary environmental work for 3 mnoths before returning to the Uk.

what a mistake.

Basically we had taken more than 12 months off work so lapsed on our 3 of 4 years work experience (in effect we have 8 1/2 out of 10 years - v annoying)
So we re-set the clock and our 3 years is almost around now, but in the mean time we have turned 30 and so lost points there.
So now we can only really get in with a 60 point job. which looks quite difficult. We are unsure what OHs job classifies as, but as he can only do it in sydney (investment banking) we need the 136 visa.

Otherwise we will have to look at employer sponsorship, which we dont want to do as we'd prefer to be independant (and spend 3 months in NZ first to avoid quarantine for our dog!)

so ho hum. hopefully someone can get us there someday. I did joke abou retraining as a hairdresser back in 2004, i kinda wish i now had

No not really down in the dumps, maybe i laid it on a little thick with the sad-smilies!

To be honest it would just be nice to have a chink of light shine through on the migration thing sometime soon.

Down in the dumps will come the day we realise there is no way in at all. But then there are plenty of other places and options I suppose.

Hiya welcome to POMS IN OZ,Have you had a chat with an agent about your dilema??? phil olsen is a regular on here and has helped lots of people have a look through for a link to him.If there is a way of getting you a visa he will know,he may also have a better idea on areas for your work,,good luck

we had a chat with an agent over a year ago. It wasnt much help, i dont know if that was the agent or our situation though.

we now almost fulfil the 3 of 4 years work requirement so i guess its time to chat again.

Hi Basil, sorry to hear that your having difficulty. I can recomend trying Allan Collett, he's also a memebr of this site and has been really helpful with a query i had. Good luck and i hope you get to Oz soon.

Hi Basil,
Idiots guide.....i REALLY needed this when i was new here! To send them a personal message, you can do that by clicking on the members list at the top, for Allan Collett, click on 'A' and i think he's on page 2 of the 'a's...if you click on his name it will give you his profile and on the right there is contact info, click on send personal mail and you're off!! Phil olsen is there as well.
I hope this isnt patronising, but it took me a while to work it out !!!!
