WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Do different states have different driving licence criteria?
friends in perth said it takes 2 yrs to pass the driving test,as you have to do so many hrs driving before taking test, then you have a yrs probation (which has limitations in that time) before you get a full licence.
I was recently in a car crash with someone (ironically) from a driving school. He thought he could cross two lanes and get onto the carriageway going in the opposite direction before I got to him... needless to say he couldn't and I crashed into him. I will find out who he worked for... so you can avoid having lessons with him

I don't know about the other states but in Queensland you no longer have to take a test (only changed in the last few months). You just turn up with your UK license and various i.d. - easy.
I read somewhere about if you havent been passed your driving test in the uk for more than i think it is 5 years you have to resit it in oz when you get there. Not 100% but definately read something somewhere.
