WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
helloo there everyone, very pleased to have found this site which has already been a great help to me... :D
basically I am a 24 year old, single LGV driver who would like to move to Australia in the near future (ASAP would be great, but im very realistic about the time and difficulty involved, especially as im relatively new to my profession and it is not on the skills list)
basically I have a couple questions with regard to migrating to Oz, you might not necessarily have to be a driver to be able to help me out;
1. I was looking at taking a working holiday before taking things any further, to get a feel for the country and see if it can help me get a 'foot in the door' (with regards to sponsorship etc) in any way...Does anyone know if it is possible to go on this type of visa and work driving lorries for an Oz firm on a UK LGV license?? -
2. If you have to have an Aussie HGV license, is it possible to get this as a working holidayer, or do you have to be an Aussie resident before you can get one???
thanks in advance for any help and good luck everyone in your search for greener grass, which ever stage of your journey you are at. :D
Different stated have different regulations. My hubbie is an HGV driver and wil have to re-take tests in order to get his aussie licence in victoria. You can check out Vicroads site for answers and the other states have sites that are similar.
Hope this helps a little

We're looking to move to Adelaide and from what I can see, you can still use your normal UK car license for 6 months so maybe that would be the same for HGV?
If it was me, I would see if there are any multinational companies that are based near you in the UK and in your chosen state, they should be able to find out. Plus, if there was opportunity to, you could get a job with them and then get transfered so you had a job to walk into as soon as you landed! I know some of my family who have done it have done it like that, different industries but all the same, if you have a job to go into and the company say that, it makes your visa app easier to accept!

Hiya we are in Brisbane and the jobs paper is full of ad's for drivers ,i think alot of the work over here is done on a self owned vehicle basis and i do believe you have to do a different test ,have you looked on the goverment website for answers ? you could try www.alljobs.com.au find a biggish company and e-mail them explaining what licence you have etc and what they require for you to work,im no expert on drivers but i hope this helps.
