Hello

Hi,
I just come across this web site today and already i think its great. The name makes me laugh!

Im a nurse and for the past 12 months have seriously been thinking about emigrating to Oz. Mainly because i want a better lifestyle and my partner and i both feel England is going down hill rapidly.

Nursing in the UK is shocking at the moment. I love my job and would never give it up but the NHS is a nightmare to work in.

We went on holiday to Oz in Nov and loved it beyond belief. The weather, the people, the outdoor lifestyle, the food, the sport, the great value for money and the outlook on life.

We look forward to all your posts

Charly

Hi Charley,

Just thought I would say hi from my partner Paul and I. We only joined this website on Friday but already have learnt so much. The people that use this forum appear extremely friendly and helpful so Im sure you will get any advice you need.
Cant offer any assistance on the nursing front but if you're looking into your job prospects, try www.workplace.gov.au and also www.myfuture.edu. Been looking at these myself. Initially a bit of a minefield but you soon learn to navigate your way round.
Anyway, good luck and let me know how you get on,

Candy :D

Hi Candy (and Paul)

Thanks for your web sites advice. Hopefully i wont have a problem finding a job as i hear that Oz have a shortage of nurses but actually have jobs not like the UK!

Im so glad ive found this site. I have seen that programme on BBC 1 this morn and it reminded me to search for a site like this to see if i can speak/meet like minded people.

Everyday we dream of a better life and everyday we get reminded of how the UK isnt where we want to spend the rest of our lives and raise a family.

Have you thought of where you both would like to move to?
We really like Melbourne!

Hi Charly,

We havent decided on where specifically to look at moving to yet. My research is still in the initial stages but we are taking several issues into account including and most importantly, realistic job prospects, then cost of living then standard of living.
From what Ive managed to research so far, our options are narrowed to Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide. We are not looking to be close to the beach, we would be happy with plenty of parkland nearby, but I think for my ideal job, would have to be a sound commuting distance to the CBD of whichever state.
Paul is a joiner and I would dearly love to continue my job working in the police as a civvie. Using the websites I have looked at so far, Victoria seems to be better for me, but not sure about Paul. Decisions, decisions.
I'll keep researching and narrowing down my options before we then commit to doing a reccie of the areas.
On with researching migration agencies aswell. Should you choose to, there is lots of good advice and personal recommendations on this forum also.
Have you started your visa application yet?

Hi,

No we havent started any applications yet. Unfortunately ive got 2 years left in my job (im a nurse in the navy) so cant do anything for just over a year yet. In some ways 2yrs is a good timescale for us to make definite decisions and do lots of research.

We are planning our next holiday for jan 08 and plan on going to Brisbane, Adelaide and back to lovely Melbourne. On our last trip we visited Perth, Melbourne and Sydney. This is all to get a good idea of the places.

My partner leaves the navy in May and is currently applying to the police down here in Devon and Cornwall. So our timescale of moving is good as if he is sucessful he can complete his 2 yrs probabtion here then move.

Have you been watching that programme on BBC1 in the morns?

Ive managed to catch 3 or 4 of the programmes so far. I like the concept of the programme but good ol' Nadia makes it look really easy for families to choose!
Paul and I are getting married in September so I have emailed a migration agent for advice on when to start the whole process rolling. We would be looking to enter Oz via the Skilled Independant route, (Paul scores higher than me) and I want to know whether we would be better off waiting until after we are wed to apply or whether we can start now.
I dont know about you, but the more info I obtain, the more confused I become. Job prospects are sooo important and Im aware that I/we could be out of work for some months before we get lucky. Fingers crossed though.
2 years seems like forever for you Charly but realistic re: your own goals.
Wish you the best of luck but please keep in touch and let me know how youre getting on. If I can help in any way, just shout myself or the other members on here. Fabtastic opportunities await!
