I could not agree more, I have a four year old & 16 month old, and already the future scares me. We are hopefully on our way to Brisbane later this year, and although very scared, also so excited at what the future could come for our children, instead of working every hour will actually be able to enjoy time with the kids, everything goes to the cost of living here in UK. Heres to a better future.
Hi
we are still at an early stage of applying for a visa to australia, we have just sent of the tra form and have not yet received a yes or a no, :?
Some days i think, "God get me out of the country, the quicker the better". But i know nothing is going to be quick, we will have to be pacient.
We have friends who moved to Perth in september 2006 and are now living in Quinns Rocks. We have more friends who live in Perth Scrobourgh, they have just moved on the 7th january 2007 and have not even received ther container with all the things in it, they are both loving it at the moment and keep incourageing us to continue with our visa. That is what we are going to do, i havent told my parents yet that is going to be the worst part they are in there 70's. :( well thats it for now or i will go on for ever, if anyone has advice on how to tell there parents that your leaving the country forever and that they may never see their grandchildren again please help
hi
i would just like to say that im a coward so what i did was buy emigration books and just left them lying round the house and waited for mum to notice them and mention it, we have two littluns, 9,and 6 and they are extremly close their nan and grandad and also my younger sister(who wont speak about oz or the fact that we are leaving in is complete denial cause it breaks her heart to even think about). anyway we approached sslowly by saying we were thinking about it, it did help that my husband has always wanted to go and has always aired his views, then one day i just said i think im going to apply. my parents are very supportive and really want the kids to have better life,
with web cams and the internet your kids can still see their nan and grandad.
good luck with everything

I agree with everything including the fixation on reality tv which has probably only come about due to the fact that the tv is on so much in every household that they are fast running out of ideas for programmes. This in addition to the fact that everyone knows that they should probably watch the news but doesn't want to because it'll be depressing as ever.
There's got to be more to life than sitting night after night with the remote control waiting for another day of routine drudgery to come around.
We told my parents from day 1 and my mum took it badly for about 3 months. She admitted she was in complete denial as is my best friend still. Now, my friend still won't discuss it but my mum is taping all the BBC Wanted down under programmes for us to watch. If there's one about Perth she watches it and phones me to tell me about it.
I spent the day with her today and we took her new little pup out for a long walk. It was so nice to be wrapped up warm in winter coat and scarf walking in the countryside chatting to my mum about my week. There are some things that no amount of sunshine will replace.......still going though!
 Hi I felt the need to reply to this post as there is some very harsh words said about Great Britain...wanted to write some things to balance the post.
I moved to brisbane in Oct and although me and my family have settled ,OZ was nothing like I expected.First let me address TRASH TV...if you think the UK is bad OMG wait till you get over here!!!! Nothing but CSI and every other version of cop programs you can think of.Reality TV American style and adverts a plenty...believe me you will wish you had BBC back. Now before you say that TV will be off because you will be out in the sun ,remember it gets dark ,i mean pitch black ,at 7 oclock.
As for the Government, well a case of out of the frying pan and into the fire. The PM is a to**er,recently passing a bill reducing workers rights ,allowing larger companys to make people redundant more easily...something im sure tory blair would never have got away with.
And my last point "a country that takes everything and get nothing in return" well you pay for evertything and I mean everything here!!!
Last trip to dentist for check up and antibiotics cost a cool $210 ,my friends 14 year old needs braces $5000 and a doctor appointment for my 18 month daughter $45 ....need I go on.
Guess what Im trying to say is that it's not a bed of roses over here and although GB has its faults its not all bad.Take it from someone who had to increase there mortgage to buy a decent house in OZ and paying 7.49% intrest to boot.

I dont think any country is a bed of roses and no one should come here expecting it to be BUT give me oz over the uk anyday, yes you pay for everything but i dont mind paying for things 'I' need ,i resent my money in the uk being wasted on immigrants and dole dossers when so many pensioners can hardly stay afloat!. Yes it goes dark in oz by 7pm BUT its not safe to go out after 7pm in the uk anyway! In oz i dont have a set doctor but can get in to see one when needed BUT in the uk you were better before you got in for an appointment!.Oz tv is renowned for being crap BUT i dont mind im not paying a stupidly high tv licence to watch it!.Basically we prefer Oz and feel it has better prospects for my children and a safer enviroment to grow up in If you are offended by any of this ,dont be as this is my point of view comparing were we lived in the uk to where we live now in Oz ,make your money in the uk then come and slow down in Oz,expect the unexpected and youll get no nasty surprises !!!!

Do not think for one second that the grass is greener here because it is not, many things here are as bad as the Uk, but some are also as good as the Uk.
I am proud to be British and from the UK and will always defend when I can.
Well calNgary looks like I hit a raw nerve...I was only trying to say that if these are the reasons for people leaving the UK then maybe they should consider the fact that these problems are also here in OZ.
As for the british government wasting money on immigrants....dont you think this is a bit hypocritical as you yourself are an immigrant in OZ ???
