Any advise welcome

Hello
We're at the beginning of the journey, came across this site and it's fab! At the moment we live and work in Scotland but hope to make the move to Oz. We're at the very early stages and have sent a few emails off to immigration and possible employers. Coincidentally we received an email tonight from a possible employer/sponsor!
Needless to say we are now over excited! We know there is a long way to go though, with lots to consider and organise. At the moment we don't have the required number of points so are not sure if employer sponsorship would be advantageous or not? We both have possible family sponsorship also.
I (Kate) have a 5 year old son, I'm divorced, he has contact with his dad. Has anyone dealt with similar situation? I am not sure how things stand legally with that? Myself and my ex husband do communicate!
At the moment we're thinking South Australia - Adelaide. Are we near the mark thinking 18 months average for visas being sorted (if we're successful)?
Bit of a boring first posting, sorry! We really are more exciting than we sound here.
Cheers
K&M

Even if you have not got enough points sometimes you can get in to certain states of Australia through state sponsorship. I dont know what your trade is but in some states they require particular trades and offer state sponsorship.
Last year I went to a migration fair at Epsom race course and each state had a goverment stand trying to coax people to their particular states and each had their lists of trades or occupations they wanted.
You have to commit to a minimum of 2 years in the state. A friend of mine went to Adelaide a couple of years ago through state sponsorship and it was his only way in for permanent residency.
I am not totally sure but I seem to remember that Adelaide are very keen to boost their population and had a wider list of trades and occupation.
I would suggest trying to do a search on each state government site or contacting an immigration specialist.
Maybe have a look to see if there is a migration fair close to you soon.
I picked up lots of information at the one I went too.
Best of luck.
