Iam a brickie of 28 my partner is 31 and the little princess is 4yrs.
We are really outdoorsey people and have dreamt of living on the coast ever since ever. Cant wait to get gone!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

hi there....

Hello there all,

Dont know if it helps, but i lived on the sunshine coast for a number of years, thats where caloundra and noosa is and many more lovely places. . i just loved the sunshine coast, it has grown massively over the years but it still has the charm and unique lifestyle that us pommes crave. i also lived on the gold coast for a number of years which is a bigger version but at the end of the day it depends what you want out of it. the beaches are just great at sunshine coast and only get very very buesy during holiday season, but no where as busy as back home. try and find some websites dedicated to places like maroochydore and moolalabah which are on the sunshine coast also. townsville ive never been, bit far up north for me as i like to be close to everything. well i hope ive given you a bit of an insight, dont hesitate to contact me as i know exactly what its like. good luck with your find and that everything goes well for you guys.

Clare and Pete x

Hi hope this helps.........I moved to oz in 1978.lived in Victoria for two weeks...reason for only two weeks was that it rained for the two weeks and i was young and impatient. Move up too Queensland gold coast lived there for two years 1978-1980 iam a welder 1st class so work wasnt that much of a problem...moved from queensland to Western Australia...decided to drive there .....hmmm 4300 miles later i arrived in northern western australia a place called port hedland lived there two years moved down to perth and the south west of WA...i can honestly say that Perth and Western Australia leaves all the other citys and states for dead except for northern territory and tasmania which i have never visited. Being a bricklayer if you are good at your job and dont complain much you will make good money and get on well. I have noticed a few replys on this site saying that the Aussies are lazy and always at the beach i have never experienced that infact its the opposite Aussies work hard but play hard thats my experience any way if you need to know any thing at all about anything in OZ do not hesitate to do so.
kind regards Derek Bannister.

Its Qld for us although have never been to Perth...We did think about NSW but it was only a very quick thought.....Caloundra, Noosa both absolutely gorgeous..Bribie Island is a little quieter and just as nice...Mooloolaba has to be my fav place ever...It just has everything we want...We are moving inland a little to Beerwah but Caloundra and Mooloolaba will be our nearest beaches yayyyy...
The sunshine coast is wonderfully scenic, but i think most of Oz is...Happy choosing

Cant help with recommending Townsville/Sunshine Coast area but have to say that l'd be singing the praises of Coffs Harbour where Clare and Pete are if l was in your situation. Gorgeous town, perfect year round weather, fantastic beaches to suit everyone from surfers to little'uns and the most lovely creek just out of town. Bush right on the doorstep too. Schools looked good also and our friends who live there reckon work for tradies no prob (he is a painter and decorator). If the uni/further studies had worked for us we would be settling there no question.

Hi, I’ve previously lived in Perth and Sydney, I’m no expert on the Sunshine Coast but it would be my choice to live, I’ve only stayed there for five weeks but loved the good beaches, national parks etc and the feel of the place.
It seems to be a fast-growing place and the infrastructure seems to be keeping up. My younger kids loved the area, how couldn’t they! My two teenagers thought the youth culture was very limited, okay for hanging ‘round shopping ‘malls’ and they felt you’d need to get into the beach culture and buy a surfboard. As a brickie you'll be fine - Good luck. Finding work would be a concern for me as well as prospects for school-leavers. This study by Monash University classed the Sunshine Coast as a ‘vulnerable area’, in terms of ‘poor job prospects, low wages, low levels of kids taking up further education, high numbers of young people on benefits, wide social divide etc. So, guess there’s pros and cons like anywhere.

Perth is okay but closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fremantle is the saving grace!
