WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Hi everyone
I will put my cards on the table, its my first time on your forum and i am here to help my son, he is hellbent on moving to ozz and even though i dont want him to i intend to help him if i can,the trouble is i dont know the first thing about, what he has to do,whats his first step, how would he find work,or somewhere to live, how does he apply,
He is 24 years old, a qualified joiner,in full time employment, with no police record,(seems i done something right),and all the know it alls who have no real idea say "they will welcome him with open arms", but i would like to hear from people that do have some idea,i dont expect any one to spend ages typing for my benifit but if anyone could guide me to a place where i could get good basic knowledge that could help then i would be very gratefull, many thanks Martin.

hey martin ..
well it sounds to be that your a pretty damn good father ay ...
i just got a migration visa at the start of the week and may be able to help you in some areas ..
id say your best bet is to get in contact with a migration agent mate .... there not always cheap , but will give you good and sometimes invaluable advice on the best way of doing things .....
yeah , i also have heard the whole open arms stories , but in my opinion the best way is to go through an agent as they will be able to tell you near on straight away if your son is eligible etc for a visa enabling him to move out ....
another way would maybe for him to track down an employer that would take him on and sponser him in order for him to stay out there eventualy.....im no expert but i hope this helps a little
Hi,
I`m with Noyes on this one.
A migration agent will make the whole process a lot easier although you do pay for the privelege. It takes a lot of stress out of the process. Lots or probably most on here seem to do everything themselves but I did not want to get anything wrong.
I used Go Matilda and they have been very good, main application is in and just waiting for the next stage now.
Best of luck whichever route you go.
Just a quick thanks to "Noyes" and "hantsfamily" for taking time to reply and you bet we will take the advice you both gave. thanks again and good look yourselves. martin m
There is a skills assessment which is free on this site which your son can complete to let him know how many points he has. Also Phil Olson, who posts on this site (you can send him a private message) is an agent who has been very helpful generally on this site., and he would give your son advise on how to get started etc.
It's a long process and not a cheap one, but it is worth it in the end.
