Hi all
We're new to this site so thought we'd say Hi and introduce ourselves, we live in Quorn (Leicestershire) and are desperately planning a long awaited move to Australia. We've just sent off our skills assessment forms to the TRA and hope to god that they're OK as we've done it all ourselves! Matt's a builder and I just work in admin - our little girl is Chloe and she has just turned four. We want to move to get out of England, not just for better weather, but open space, a more relaxed way of life, better standards of living - we're looking at either Caloundra or Townsville/Magnetic Island. The only problem we have is that my mum is terminally ill so we cant plan very far ahead but if anyone has any info re: taking her with us please :lol: do tell us!
p.s how hard is it to fill in the main application? Has anybody got any tips?

Welcome , i have'nt been on here for about 5mnths (since we landed in Brisbane) just back on the internet.
I'm afraid i can not give you any advice about your mum but i can tell you my husband and i filled in the application ourselves and it was pretty straight forward,there is a lot of info on the government website to help you fill it in.
We live about an hour from Caloundra and have been there a few times,very nice place and i did a lot of research on Magnetic island last year as i thought we might have been going there,another great place,can't comment on Townsville although my husband has been there but prefers where we live.
Hopefully you will hear back from TRA soon,i think it took 2 weeks for us .

Hi, having visited Townsville and Maggie Island twice I loved it so much that not only did I get married on Maggie last year, but me and the wife are moving to Townsville next year when I start as a mature student at James Cook University. The way I see it you get the best of all worlds - excellent weather ( but not too hot like Cairns or the NT). A holiday Island on your doorstep. Major train, bus and air routes (The whole of the East coast and NZ are easily and cheaply reached). National parks on your doorstep (Reef, Rainforest or outback). And all in a fairly sizeable cosmapolitan(ish) town. In addition there is a huge building boom and the town is also the admin capital of Northern Queensland so you and hubbie should have no problem getting work. Oh, and the cost of living and property is really cheap!
